You can save compilation time by only adding contrib/necessary to your source tree instead of all of contrib.

From a users POV, native AROS (When your Hardware is supported)

If you want to develop AROS or Apps for AROS, then Linux is your first choice. But If you have no experience, first steps will be hard.

Is the only drawback not to be able to use any resolution?

What is the difference between aros nvidia and vesa mode?

I know about the AGP transfer mode that I think it only exists on nvidia mode and AGP card, but it isn't relavant when using a pci express card.

My main goal is faster OWB scrolling speed, and amibridge at good speed if a get a core2duo mobo as well.

Have you tested if AROS will work with AHCI mode enabled? Some BIOSes appear to support IDE emulation at the same time as AHCI. Another option is to run AROS from a USB stick, but that isn't available in Icaros yet.

It compiled fine with a 2.6.30 kernel in Puppy Linux 4.31

Until yesterday I had IcAROS 1.1.5 as my main OS, so it was time to backup all my data for a fresh install from scratch. So, after the end of 1.2 install, it was time to update to 1.2.1. All went ok... almost ok. After the update the screen was all black, so I had to copy back the old nvidia.hidd from 1.2. I had another issue too: when a pointer.prefs is set, the pointer disappears. I had to delete pointer.prefs, so the standard pointer appeared. It's ugly, but at least is useable. A good thing is the greater pointer speed. It a good enhancement to useability. These are the problems I had. Excluding these little problems, IcAROS 1.2.1 is a really great OS!

About the pointer problem... I'm still with an old Geforce 4 MX440. Could that be the problem?
