iMica and Icaros in the house [by mbrantley]

iMica and other Aros compatible hardware:: iMica and Icaros in the house
I got home this evening to find my new iMica Silent (did I get the capital and lowercase letters right?) in a neat little box on the front porch. Luckily no one happened by to help themselves to the little package!

Thanks, Steve! You've done a nice job. I was going to hang this little jewel from the back of the monitor, but now I don't know if I want to hide it. It's a nice box -- one I'm about to get into to install a 120GB hard drive that got pulled new from a new Mac Mini (Intel version) last year on the day that machine got delivered.

Only hiccup I've had so far is I was unable to figure out a way to get a 1920x1080 screen to display properly on my newer Samsung monitor. Left and right was cut off, and the image didn't quite reach to top and bottom. No monitor adjustment made it right.

So for the moment I've given up that and have swapped in an older Samsung monitor that's working well at 1680x1050. Wouldn't be the end of the world if I needed to stick with this combination, but it would be nice to go with the bigger monitor here.

Haven't done much else except play some video clips. The Blender bunny animation plays much smoother than the same file does on on my Sam440ep-flex system with AmigaOS 4.1u2. (And we really, really need Blender on AROS.)

Happy so far. Obviosuly talking to the Internet is working just dandy, as I'm typing this in OWB now.

Will report back later, probably tomorrow. Gonna go play now...

@Seiya_37

If you mean a full IDE, integrated text editor and compiler, then we are waiting for proto's work. All versions of AROS have a C compiler.

At the moment look here

http://aros.sourceforge.net/documentation/developers/index.php

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Developer/Porting_software

and

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Developer/Docs

They all need lots of work still.

Have fun,
Jeff.

Help:: ytmon
ytmon only supports the basic format. I started looking at higher formats but due to my limited ADSL I was not confident that I got it working correctly so held off on publishing it.

You don't need mplayer in C: Actually, my install notes suggest you put ytmon into the same directory as mplayer.

I was not intending on customising this much more (other than maybe higher quality video) as it really is just a work around until OWB is enhanced with HTML5. Once that happens I am sure ytmon will be redundant.

Help:: VESA bugg
I built AROS today with the latest changes in hopes of trying scrolling screens, but selecting VESA 24bit mode(s) from grub menu causes screen to go black and no apparent disc activity. (Nouveau goes black but keeps accessing disk until wanderer shows up.) Hicolor fails also.

Booting in "Safe Mode" brings up the ugly 4bit VGA wanderer screen and the screen prefs acts really weird if you click off a size default checkmark. Top value becomes 5555 lower value goes to 5445, and I can't enter values in them, gadget bevel borders go wide horizontally there.

This is the same behavior I noted on old compaq ipaq desktop, but today I was using different nvidia based machines, one with onboard 6150se (not yet supported with nouveau) and the other with a nouveau supported AGP card.

Thanks for posting your boot logo.

Two questions for you:

1) How do I reflash the firmware of the bios to load an alternative picture?

Any advice would be appreciated.

General chat:: AROS version for smartphones/tablets?
Tablett, Smartphone and other mobile devices ? Sorry they don't depend on the CPU, you could get x68 hardware with WinXP support for years.
What you need is a modified GUI ( imagine only one_mouse_key, no difference betwen mouse_over and click_on, an larger icons, gadgets and requester ) and of couse a lot of applications making it worth to be used as an operation system.

The new GUI might be able with 2-3 people working 3 month but the new applications for an tablett PC would still be missing not only because AROS still miss WiFi and Bluetooth.
