Hosted version needs no hardware drivers at all. That's what makes hosted so easy (relatively speaking) compared to native. If the host supports the hardware, it can be used transparently in the hosted version of AROS. I'm a little surprised no one has modified the UAE bsdsocket.library for AROS before now.
It's good to see someone has taken the TCP/IP bounty on. Getting native networking is rather important. Many people have commented that they'd use AROS almost full time if they had networking. It's one of the main deficiencies right now: networking, then USB. The two major hot points to take care of.

would be nice if people (devs) would start an effort to get aros compiled under win32, then perhaps get a propper hosted win32 env going.
I tried to build the native iso using dev-cpp and mingw but ran into a few problems with the configure scripts, and collect-aros (ignores that wait.h isnt found, and tries to use functions that arent available) I also did a quick splash screen for use on a win32 hosted port if ever we get one - ![]() (the dark grey areas are meant to be transparent )

well it would be nice if people would use/update the wiki books - its pretty trivial and far quicker than working on the websites cvs.
the links are on AEs menu on the left <-- AROS User Docs AROS Dev. Docs Perhaps if we can get it upto date we can use it instead of the docs on cvs (using its export feature to generate the docs for the iso..?)

Ok, i think that makes better sense, to have a survey. I shall start work on creating one, which i can host easily on my webspace, i think i have an idea of the questions to put in it, i shall report back here when i think ive found the full list of questions, if people can have a quick look at them once i've done it, i'd appreciate that as i may inadvertently miss something.

I think it would be better to have a "survey" then post them in a thread. It would provide better data. Also allow us, (user type folk), to better come up with bounties.

That'd make for a whole pile of polls, could either list 'em in a post or maybe someone could make up a HTML survey & compile the results (I'm sure there's something out there that makes these for you).

To remain source compatible with AOS / MOS, using Zune is a good idea too.

i must admit from the looks of Abiword, i think that would be a good option as a word processor, - am i right in thinking that GTK is effectively an open-source MUI/Zune-type thing? Although i can think of advantages to having GTK ported to Aroa & AmigaOS, i'm always tempted to think about system resources needed for MUI and equivalents. to be honest, if i could get away without MUI on the amiga i probably would. Yes it maks stuff look nice, but it uses resources.
also with Aros devlopment, has Zune been decided upon as the standard for user interfacing for programs, or can we still code using normal AmigaOS user interfaces and the apropriate calls?
