@elwis

Did you remember to turn off the startup sound in Icaros prefs? Otherwise you might be getting no log because there's nothing to log

@elwis

Those are details about other sound drivers. Does the AHI GUI mention HDAudio?

Thanks. I followed up in your EeeBox thread (I didn't see it earlier).

Well, I tried booting up the eeebox with Linuxmint. According to that one it was a "Digital output device IEC958". And yes, I did hear output in my speakers so it's working, AROS just don't like it much.

According to the Linux Hardware Database your codec is an ALC888, which has been reported to work with AROS.

This test might give useful information: boot Icaros with the startup sound disabled, then run Tools/Debug/Sashimi in a shell, then try to play a test sound in AHI prefs. What does the Sashimi log say about HDAudio?

That's great. Did you use the Realtek NIC?

The Qualcomm Atheros is a similar WiFi chipset to the one we discussed in the Mini-PCI(E) thread, so no luck I'm afraid.

Tell us more about the audio problem. It might just need a tweak somewhere.

Sorry, you have a Broadcom NIC, which we don't have a driver for.

A big clue is that the label and description indicate 802.11n compatibility. Unfortunately we don't have drivers for any 11n cards yet.

@DizzyOfCRN

In the case of my Gigabyte board, the EHCI controller can't be seen in the list of PCI devices under either AROS or Ubuntu. I presume it can't be used in that case.

On the Gigabyte board nothing works - not USB 1, 2 or 3. Neil has the same board and confirms AROS simply cannot use the onboard USB at all. On the Acer, to be fair, a memory stick can be opened - but when accessing its contents the machine quickly crashes so that's not too useable either.

Yes, the two similar Gigabyte boards that Nigel and I have are essentially XHCI-only. They do have EHCI controllers onboard (at least mine does) but the BIOS doesn't make them available in any configuration. I've filed a bug report with Gigabyte about this and they say they may fix it in a future BIOS version, but I'm not holding my breath!
