That statement from A-EON says nothing about developing drivers for MOS or AROS. They only support OS4 and to some degree OS3.x.
It's the writer of the article who'd like A-EON to consider other platform as well.

Arrggh, it was too nice to be real...

Both, but only ABIv1.

Yes, there is an experimental AMD64 SMP build. It's labelled smp-pc-x86_64-boot-iso on the nightly downloads page.

great, i'm willing to try it in a native environement, do you think of some advices, or hints ?

Hi all, just 2 questions regarding branch involved here :
- is it for x86 or AMD64, or both maybe ?
- An other question : is the amd64 abiv1 has the smp support (even experimental) ?
thanx

Hi everyone,

I don't know what to think about this :
https://amitopia.com/amds-polaris-chipset-amigaos4/
A-EON tells that Polaris chipset will get a support for AROS.
I don't know how this could be possible.

What do you think ?

If you, and other Icaros users could name the apps, games that is realy needed for Icaros would you consider a move to abi v.1 32-bit?

Hi all

This is my two cents from a happy icaros user for years.

I've read in this thread, and agree with, that there is no point staying on x86 architecture. I think if there is a migration, it should be, as it has already been said, for a x64 with SMP support, because : AROS would be the FIRST amiga OS NG which has a real 64bits and multicore support !
(I'm not saying that I think that adding 12 cores µp on the X5000 is completely useless, nooooo)

The second reason is that : as it is a huge improvement, users can understand that it is not a easy one and that, as for every big migration (remember the migration between mac os 9 to mac os X, or from any version of zindoz to the next one...). Users WILL wait for softwares to be recompiled.

And there is not real need, IMHO, to delete all softwares from aros-archives, just add a new folder, like "aros new generation", or whatever it may be called.

For the list of softwares that are mandatory, here is my list :
- janus-uae (or any other emulation, but janus has some wonderfull integration options)
- oweb of course
- gfx softwares like zuneview and brothers
- music trackers !
- mp3 player
- screen grabber and screen cast software
- all C/System/Tools and Utilities folders
- french support

Ofcourse, I think that the biggest problem is the support for todays mainboards chipsets...

I know that the biggest second problem is the lack of devs...

This was my two cents,
Thanx to all for the huge work that is being done on aros,
Cheers,
Jess.

Hi friends,

I'm putting a little UP on this thread cause i tried it again, and it crashed.

@ntromans : It's true that it is interesting that I have an intel chipset cause in VESA the screen recording works (not very fast, maybe 1 image per second).

I'm running last icaros update (2.2), on the same machine described before in this thread.

@Kalamatee : do you think replacing jpeg library can be of help ? Which jpeg library version should I use ?

Best regards,

Hi nikolaos,
can you tell me more about aspire os. I hear about it since a lot of time, and it seems really interesting.
Is it an AROS port/distribution ? is it based on aros nightly ?
and all other info you may want to give.
cheers
