No, I am not. It's just a different area of expertise, which I only have because I really spent an unreasonable and silly amount of time on things like this. :) Remember, I'm poking into FPC since the late 90s, and did the first MorphOS port (which btw is still nowhere complete and Alb42 has to regularly fix it) in 2004... Plus I still really suck compared to the real compiler experts of the FPC team. :)

There are plenty of things from Alb42, which I cannot do, or could do much slower than he does them. And his work is a great motivation for me anyway. I'd like to think about it as a cooperation. I know it's rare in the Amiga world, but hey! :)

@itix:
Why do you report MorphOS issues in an AROS forum, instead of our bugtracker? :) (Or the bug report tool, for end users?)

Well, yes, news at 11, actually AROS has a clear advantage here, the binutils situation for everything else than AROS is a bit messy.

The Amiga HUNK support is entirely removed from current binutils anyway, and the MorphOS support was never mainline...

Also, it seems some Amiga-binutils & toolchain flavor should have such a counter:

Quote:

//
// Dear maintainer:
//
// Once you are done trying to 'optimize' this routine,
// and have realized what a terrible mistake that was,
// please increment the following counter as a warning
// to the next guy:
//
// total_hours_wasted_here = 42
//

Still, thanks for giving it a try...

So that would mean that msys2 is out of the question as well since it has the msys-2.0.dll dependency (unless statically linked in) ?

Yes. Statically linked everything is highly preferred.

Furthermore i wondered (i really have no idea) about this.

OK, this was a tricky one... Actually, according to the maintainer Pierre Muller, those .dlls are obsolete, and shouldn't be there, but seems 3.0 got forked before the cleanup commit... Hopefully the cleanup commit will be merged soon.

Any details on the "what needs to be done"? Seems just like with every dirty jobs, it falls back on me... *sigh*

Would it be ok if i would take care of the windows part there then ? (also addressed @ Chain-Q).

Fine with me. However, see the remark about the standalone binutils (no Cygwin or any other DLL dependency, outside plain Win32 stuff).

2. I still do not know, I will supply an release binary archive for i386-aros, charlie will create one for MorphOS and Amiga all three placed onto the offical freepascal page. (and we will upload them to aminet and so on)

There's two sets of binaries we can supply.

A., "official" FPC releases, which we have to support as official FPC releases, these can go to freepascal.org and will be included in the news item.
B., Meanwhile, in the Amiga world, we can distribute any number of crosscompilers you want. :) I'd be generally against including these as official releases, because if you don't use a specific cross-compiler, it's very hard to properly support them... But one can still provide binary builds "as-is", w/o support.

I don't plan to provide official MorphOS cross compilers, only a native MorphOS compiler build. However, depending on the binutils situation (we won't include Cygwin stuff in official releases, so MingW is needed for Windows), it would be great to officially release a Win32->Amiga68k cross compiler (ideal to use with WinUAE) at least, beside the native Amiga 68k compiler of course.

Unofficially (as: on my homepage and Aminet) I'll probably provide some more cross-compilers, but that depends a lot on my lazyness factor... :)

The AROS decision I let it up completely to Alb42, since it's his stuff, but something along the guidelines above would be nice.

However, nothing is carved in stone, so we can discuss and decide anything really.

No (it didn't happen on my setup), but I happen to know the fixes were after the last source sync, if that helps. So you should know who to abuse.
