Request for alternative ata.device (ABIv1 64 bit)

Hey guys. Not sure if it's a feasible request but figure worth a shot. I believe I'm experiencing issues with ata.device on my laptop. Live cd runs great, but after install it won't get past initializing. It's a sata drive that needs legacy ide (no ahci support on the mobo). I saw there was an alternate ata.device provided at some point, though I can't test it since ABIv0 doesn't work on my laptop anymore. Older versions of AROS (years back) works fine booting off hard drive.

Otherwise I tried as many grub commands I could find. nodma suppresses error warnings but it still freezes at same point.

Thanks again

ABIv0 32 bit locks up during boot off live cd with both nouveau and vesa. I'm not interested in investigating it further.

edit: You can see the first post I made last year relating to ABIv0, http://aros-exec.org/modules/newbb/vi ... php?topic_id=9678&forum=1 it's the same exact behavior with the latest nightly.

ABIv1 64 bit works perfectly fine with all my hardware off live cd, only freezes up with DMA errors when booting off HD. Obvous to assume it's incompatible ata.device handler.

The instructions i pointed to is for abiv0. (you forgot to mention that fact + using 64bit version).

Well I didn't forget to mention it, you asked if I read that page when I said I had DMA errors.

I didn't say I was using ABIv1 7 years ago, I just said ata.device used to work for me. ABIv0 doesn't work at all on my notebook anymore.

Ok it looks like a no go. There isn't an Alt directory in Devs with an alternative ata.device module. I am using a 64 bit ABI1 nightly from 9/8.

edit: I should add this laptop only supports legacy IDE even though the drive is sata, so no AHCI support, and it ran fine off the hard drive with ata.device on a much older nightly from 2010.

Oh there is an alternate ata.device included? I will give it a try. Thanks

Hi. That isn't the one. But that's ok. I have a new problem now. After I installed ata.device doesn't seem to work properly anymore on my drive. Lots of DMA errors and desktop won't load. Thanks anyway.

Hi. I recently downloaded a nightly and happy to see it all mostly works on my laptop these days (even sound works now).

Anyway, there used to be a semi transparent red traingle mouse pointer that was used by default. I don't see any option for it anymore. Is there a way I can get it back?

Thanks

Startup hangs on AROS nightly

Hello,

I am having issues using AROS on my old laptop. I have used it in the past with both nouveau graphics and VESA and it worked fine (a couple years ago). Now I cannot even get past a startup sequence on any graphics mode (native, VESA, VGA). I don't know if my hardware is too old now that it isn't even supported anymore? It's a laptop from 2006 with a laptop equivalent motherboard of an nForce 430 with Nvidia Geforce 6150 graphics.

I attached a picture of where the freeze occurs with native graphics, VESA will freeze at a black screen.

I tried the latest Icaros and it had the same issue, it freezes at a slightly corrupted looking black screen.

Any help in getting this working would be really appreciated.

Thanks
