With regards to space for additional features like FPU;

Wont an upgrade to a larger FPGA accomodate that?
And wether or not that will be included depends on the performance of the SoftFPU as its developed (and possibly supported by synergy with the core)?

Looking at your credentials, your knowledge of these things are obviously vastly greater than mine.
Performance and features vs available workforce+time required to complete the tasks will inevitable lead to someone having to wait for their prefered missing feature.

Which is why its a bit sad that ShK managed to destill the whole discussion in one post on youtube;

"Gunnar's long term goal is have a new 68k Amiga with the full featured Apollo core. His goal was since years always the very same. There is still a long way to go and all features have not yet been implemented and FPU is at a very low priority. These features are took in use one by one (mini,silver,gold -cores), so everyone has been enjoying them right away when they were ready. Next one will be SAGA on GOLD3 core. Next V4 accelerator is a standalone and to work it needs AGA+PAULA. That is why AGA+PAULA via HDMI (SAGA) are at high priority after CPU (integer) development. Once they have been implemented, this SAGA part becomes open-source.?".

I had eventually realised this myself, but it was never really spelled out this clearly from one of the team.
It has nothing to do with "blind following of the bossman".

Its about accepting they have a plan they follow, and us poking them repeatedly for the sake of it, isnt very contructive.

Forensic scrutiny is Amiga communitys speciality.

Gorf, shk said clearly that the list of priorities was due to getting standalone up and running. Seems like a valid reason to me. For example Novacoder said he would like to return to Amiga scene, but only thru standalone.
Not saying that is the teams motivation, just pointing out its impossible to cater for everyone, and make everyone happy instantly.
Marcus should have picked up on it a long time ago, I certainly did over a month ago.
Why Marcus felt to open thread 100 on that topic is beyond me,as the answer was given.
Ofcourse Davids comment was less than helpful, but Marcus wasnt being superpolite either.
Why he would take his toys and go home over one comment is puzzlingm espessially he should know development got its part goals, and pre requisites to get there.

A clear roadmap could have ensured that many of these threads didnt happen, but we as users should take a step back and accept the progression logicthe team has chosen.

Well, after some thought about the thread, Marcus was confrontational in his first post to be honest.
On a topic that has been done to death (FPU).

I still think a roadmap would have helped the situation, but in the end Marcus decided to be nr 100000 that poked the team about a topic they had already put to rest and filed under "not a current priority" due to AGA/sound thru hdmi etc.
I guess I was being unfair to Gunnar asking HIM to show patience with a person that didnt give him the same curtisy. Personally I got annoyed with Gunnar since I knew Marcus would react to Davids comment. But on the flip side, isnt it really Marcus that overreacts?

Gunnar is working like mad with the team, and gets nothing but critizism. I know I overreacted to him not moderating the thread. I just wanted Marcus to stick around, but in the end he was just being overly sensitive to a silly comment that didnt even come from the Apollo Team.

So I think Gunnar and his team is being far more restrained than I would have managed to be in the same situation.

GOLD3 bring-up - Slam Tilt AGA

An Amiga 600 with the Vampire 600 V2 accelerator board. Audio and video are played through HDMI.

I only don't follow YouTube videos, so I wasn't aware of the comment that you reported.

Which is indeed the gist of the problem.

How can people be expected to know these things, when its posted on a random video.
Again, dont get me wrong, the Apollo Team does amazing work (in my book), but got room for improvement in the communication department (still much better than any other entity producing hardware for Amiga).

One comment from a random minion (not the team) was; "it wastes time for the team to make this roadmap, better spent developing!".

I guess, but on the flipside, it will enable them (and others) to just link the progression logic/roadmap, and end the discussion instantly. Instead they end up wasting hours every week on explaining the same thing over and over ...and over on different forums. It takes ..1 hour to formulate the progression logic...and another hour to put it down on a PDF? At max. Thats 2 hours of work (if even), and it will save you alot of hassle in the future.

Oh well.

Its a hobby project, so they do it how they like ofcourse, and I DO enjoy the hardware (and I plan on getting the standalone whenever that comes).

Sound and native resolutions over HDMI

AGA games:

- Street Racer
- Aladdin
- AGA Gloom
- Slam Tilt
- Super Stardust

Well, I guess you are right, but in the same token, it would save them alot of grief/time wasted having to explain "Yes, FPU is a good idea, but we are currently focusing on standalone, and for that we need AGA and sound thru HDMI etc. We are at nr 4 on the progression logic chart, but you are asking for nr 10. So..patience" etc

What has been poorly explained by the team, is the progression logic of the features.
I didnt really know this myself, but ShK did spell it out on another youtube comment section;

Quote:

Why on earth they havent made such a progression logic/roadmap available is beyond me. I had a argument with Gunnar about it yesterday, and a little ... complaint on their forum about it. Cause the lack of knowledge/understanding as to why things are done in a particular order is creating friction/tension.
Sadly I was largely ignored.

THAT said; I do love the progress reports that the team keeps giving out. And they do really good work. I dont see myself as a minion just cause I actually enjoy their hardware.
As you said; the SoftFPU is in its infancy, so will be intresting to see what Jari actually can do with regards to optimisation.
