@jeffrey,

Could you also add the Dell D630 laptop I tested. I'm not sure you saw it in the D430 thread.

Dell D630

Graphics = yes
Audio = yes
USB = yes
Network = No
Wireless = No

@nikolaos,

No, that was at the default screen size it opens on. I tried close to full screen and it slowed down to about 5 FPS.

I also tried Tux Racer and the billards game and they both were running super slow. It seems that 3D is working for me but not very well.

I boosted the graphic memory up to 256 in the Intel/GMA monitor drivers. Do you think increasing it more would help at all?. I have 2GB of total memory.

@nikolaos,

Now that I have 3D working I tried the Mesa/Gears demo with the stack set at 50000. My results were:

329 frames 5.012 seconds 65.656 FPS

@all,

Ok, so I went through my stack of laptops here and discovered that I also have a Dell D630!. This one has the GMA X3100 graphics chipset!. I moved my Athreos wireless card over to this laptop and install Aros on it.

It seems that I'm in luck! 3D works on this one as well as Audio, USB, and wireless. It has a nice 1440x900 24bit screen mode.

@nikolaos,

I'm not really worried about 3D at this point. I'm just happy to have a laptop that has everything else supported. It's nice being able to use an Aros machine to play some games and surf the web on my couch.

@nikolaos,

The 24bit screen works fine. It just defaulted to 16bit.

After doing some testing here it seems that I'm having mixed results.

None of the demo's in the Mesa drawer work no matter what I set the stack size. They just freeze the system. Most of the other demo's do work though.

Many of the regular games work but the only game in the 3D drawer I can get to work is the Mario clone.

Most of the regular apps work fine. OWB, Mplayer, etc...

Maybe the GMA 900 is not as compatible as the 945's?.

Edit:

I just looked at the Dell site and it says that the D430 has GMA 945 graphics and the D410 has GMA 915.

OK, I put in my new wireless adaptor into my dell D430 and thanks to ncafferkey everything is working perfect.

GMA 1280x800 16bit screenmode
HDaudio: HiFi 16bit Stereo++
Wireless Network
USB

All work!

Looks like a Dell D430 could be an even cheaper and quicker laptop then a netbook for AROS?. It's only a little bit bigger.
