Hi,

The libraries mentioned in the topic are now available in AROS nightly builds. This combination is often used in open source games to provide sound experience. ogg/vorbis is used for sounds data storage while OpenAL/alut for playback and 3D sound.

Now, you can get not only great 3D gfx via (future) mesa but also great 3D sound via OpenAL :) So don't waste time and start porting!

Some examples of games that use OpenAL:
Eternal Lands
Warzone 2100 (http://wz2100.net/)
AssaultCube (http://assault.cubers.net/)
Cube2 (http://www.sauerbraten.org/)

I tested these libraries using Eternal Lands client - both sounds and music work as expected. There was some audio tearing - it might be necessary to tweak the priorities of playback task a bit.

PS.

OpenAL is an almost straigh recompilation of OS4 port of OpenAL - kudos go to those guys.

Excellent! I have enjoyed playing WarZone 2100 on my Mac.

Also, as SFML gains traction against SDL, I think a C++ enhanced framework will become available for AROS. :)
