Tried todays Samsung NF210. It's a netbook with Dual Core atom. Sure AROS will not take advantage of dual core for now, but it booted aros and sound where working. Networking is not supported, but with the latest news from Neil, it is possible to buy an external usb-nic, to get online.

You mean usb-to-ethernet dongle? Does it work in Aros??

Hi !
I want to use a Samsung N510 12" Netbook with AROS / Icaros but it won't boot. The N510 is Intel Atom (N270) based with ION-Chipset and Ahteros W-LAN, so it's very likly that all this is supported by AROS. The latest Version of Icaros stopps at the linux-like bootscreen and the last message is "Everything OK" - but it goes no further. Of course i tried to boot from USB-Stick (the same stick works with other PC) and from the internal SATA- Harddisk (installed AROS on another PC) and with VESA-Mode, DMA disabled, debug mode... but nothing works ![]() I allthough tried older versions of icaros and the latest nightly builds without success. Maybe it would be helpfull to get some debug-output, but how is this possible without serial-port ? Regards, Insane

You should try to set your bios so that sata is recognised as ata (AHCI->IDE/ATA or something like that) Aros does not support true sata drives

@DizzyOfCRN
I allready looked for this in the BIOS, but there is still no option like this. It would be OK for me, to boot AROS from USB-Stick only. So is there anything i can do to get USB-boot working ? (maybe boot-option to "pass-trough" the achi/sata controller) EDIT: It looks like, that the sata-controller work in IDE-Mode by default.

just check boot options in the BIOS and place the USB drive (or "removable media") BEFORE anything else.
Generally, you should ba able to access boot BIOS boot menu at every boot, simply pressing F12. My netbook required me to enable a option like "boot menu at startup".

@paolone
Thank you, but the problem is not to get the usb-stick to boot in general. Problem is that the "AROS-Kernel" stops while booting with the "Everythin ok" message... Or did you mean to disable all other storage-devices in the BIOS ?

Rough boot process tends to go
[PCI] Everything OK [Gfx] Everything OK [ATA} think this is where the problem lies ??? Can you confirm this? Not sure if useful but osx people have had issues http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=192535 Jeff.

The way Aros gets loaded might be a bit misleading to some. It goes something like this: GRUB loads the "ROM" code from disk and jumps to execute the said code, now you can see the text outputted to screen, this is Aros running from memory and that code was loaded by GRUB. That is one point to remember.
In that code there are some basic drivers (ata.device etc.) that Aros uses to load more "stuff" from harddisk and eventually loads Wanderer. The first text that Aros outputs on screen just after BIOS is because GRUB was successful in loading the kernel in memory, but if the booting process halts it is most likely because of driver issues (GFX or ATA or USB)

Have you tried disabling DMA at GRUB menu?
I had encountered a motherboard where AROS refused to boot, if I didn't disable the onboard SATA controller (and I mean DISABLE, not "emulate IDE"), but it was really loooong ago, and in the meanwhile this issue should have gone.
