Hello,
I've got a Davicom dm9601 lanusb stick which is recognized by Trident which, as I understand it, creates a dm9601eth.device in memory. So I typed this name without a path in Interface window of Network preferences editor. Yet, "ping vg.no" outputs "ping: unknown host vg.no"... Did I miss something? ![]()

I'm not familiar with that particular hardware. Your ping test should first be to the closest router interface and by IP number. (something like 192.146.1.1 for me) Things get confusing when you're using host names without them being actually defined in your local host table or if DNS is not properly configured (unknown host error), or if DHCP isn't working to give you an ip address, netmask, gateway address, and dns server information for some odd reason. You should check if you have an actual dhcp assigned address on that ethernet interface with ifconfig or manually set it and try again.

Thank you for your answer. I'm a noob when it comes to networks, hence my love for DHCP. I wouldn't know how to set it manually.
ifconfig doesn't output anything. ping gives this: > ping 192.168.1.1 PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1): 56 data bytes ping: sendto: No route to host ping: wrote 192.168.1.1 64chars, ret=-1 ping: sendto: No route to host ping: wrote 192.168.1.1 64chars, ret=-1 ping: sendto: No route to host ping: wrote 192.168.1.1 64chars, ret=-1 --- 192.168.1.1 ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% pckets loss (I sent CTRL-C after 3 tries) Another computer on the same router says this on Windows 7: C:\Users\Olivier>ping 192.168.1.1 Envoi d'une requête 'Ping' 192.168.1.1 avec 32 octets de données : Réponse de 192.168.1.1 : octets=32 temps=1 ms TTL=64 Réponse de 192.168.1.1 : octets=32 temps=1 ms TTL=64 Réponse de 192.168.1.1 : octets=32 temps=1 ms TTL=64 Réponse de 192.168.1.1 : octets=32 temps=1 ms TTL=64 Statistiques Ping pour 192.168.1.1: Paquets : envoyés = 4, reçus = 4, perdus = 0 (perte 0%), Durée approximative des boucles en millisecondes : Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 1ms, Moyenne = 1ms

There's a line missing from the startup-sequence to enable most USB classes during boot. Find the following part of it and add the line that's marked with a '+':
If EXISTS SYS:Classes/USB Assign USBCLASSES: SYS:Classes/USB + AddUSBClasses >NIL: EndIf

Thank you!
There must be a progress indeed as now, when I connect the usblan stick, Trident pops up a window telling me it has been inserted and that it is bound to dm9601eth.class. Ping tries still outputs the same error messages as before though.

Try these commands to get more info:
ifconfig eth0 extras:networking/utils/sanautil/sanautil -d dm9601eth.device status

olivier2222 helped me on irc to setup a static configuration. Of course I can try again with DHCP. Here is the output I get for now:

Just a question: how can I be sure to mount the USB class and the device before ArosTCP starts?

I've added the patch I suggested above to the standard startup-sequence, so it shouldn't be a problem in future.

Sorry, maybe I misstated my last answer, as I did not say that I am so far still unable to connect: ping does not work.
Any other idea?
