Help me build a 100% compatible AROS machine

Greetz to AROS users. After quitting AROS since 2007-2008, I have a strong feeling to re-install AROS, preferably IcAROS Desktop, again from scratch.

I've seen that AROS made a big leap forward and it's continuing this, so it's really nice to see this project going on.

So, I need your help to build a full 100% AROS compatible system. Bear in mind that I don't mind about the costs of each hardware, so please feel free to comment everything compatible.

I was thinking about a system with both SATA/IDE connectors, PS/2 connectors for mouse and keyboard, approx. 4GB RAM, a very good and fast dual-core processor and a graphics card that supports 2D and mostly 3D, but which Nvidia model?

So to sum up, which motherboard is the most AROS compatible for you? Also which GFX card for 3D acceleration etc?

What else I have to take note?

If I forget something, please tell me.

Thanks for your time.

You can use USB wired keyboard and mouse without problem instead of ps2. It's what I'm using personnaly. I don't know if wireless keyboard and mouse is possible.

@phantom Why not go aresone mate? They're not Expensive, even though you say cost isn't an issue... take the headache out of chasing the hardware.

Otherwise there is a hardware compatibility guide on the wiki:-
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Platforms/x86_support

Hope this helps

I agree, I got myself and ARESONE 2011 and I don't think it was at all expensive. But that doesn't really matter now, since we all know not all hardware is supported. Which means that we can't be picky. If it's a matter of cost then it usually ends up with paying less for something that doesn't work or a little more for something that do anyway.

A good motherboard is AsRock G31M-GS R2.0 or AsRock G31M-GS .

The two motherboards has the same componentes and are listed in HCL as compatible with AROS , but one problem with the rtl8168 break me to use AROS at this time because the driver hangs entirely the system when the driver is loaded :(

One day people will start buying pre configured hardware designed for the job.

Any way good luck with your build.

Well, my Asus A8N-SLI Premium boards are also working completely with AROS. It's a rather old board for AMD Socket 939, but extremely well equipped. I have a AMD Opteron 185 Dual-Core on it, overclocked to 2.95 GHz. nForce LAN works, Audio works as AC97. The only problem may graphics because the board has PCI-Express, I don't know the support of PCI-E gfx cards.

Phantom: My good old friend :)

Don't think twice, go for the ARES computer. It will save you lots of trouble.

I use solely Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard (mk250) but Logitech unifying receiver should also work (no pairing yet, easy to implement if needed).

I've run Aros on both AMD and Intel processors, but now I have only Intel based box. ICH10 based boards have some issues with SATA, but that can be bypassed in grub line.

My main Aros box is cheap P45DE (I've run it with different dual cores, no issues regarding processors), audio, network, usb and ata works (needs nosata2pata though)
