BOH on AROS

Hi all,

this is my first post here and since I wasn't allowed to choose my usual user name, let me state the obvious: I'm the saimo found on the other Amiga forums (Simone Bevilacqua in real life).

These days I've ported BOH (which, I guess, you all already know) to AROS, so now the demo is available for download from the DOWNLOADS page of the website.
Please note that:
* this is only the initial port only;
* the menu music reportedly stutters - maybe an issue with SDL_mixer?;
* the full game isn't available yet.
The reason why I'm not releasing the full game yet is precisely because of the music problem - other than that, the game works just fine. If you try the demo, please let me know how it works for you - it's the reason why I've released it

... and have fun!

Great!

Maybe it's a problem with the LHA of my Linux box, but after unpacking the subdirectories like phrasebooks and missions were empty and write protected.

I've copied the files from the Linux version and the Demo started.

Ouch!
I'll check and fix that ASAP. Thanks for reporting.

EDIT: I downloaded and unpacked the archive under AROS (Icaros 1.1.5) without problems, so I guess it's an LhA problem as you suspected.

BTW: it looks like backtick expansion isn't supported by the AROS shell, is it?

Indeed, this backtick expansion feature is still lacking in AROS' Shell unfortunately... By luck it's generally easy to work-around in scripts.

Well, if redirecting the output to files in ENV: (f.ex. <command> >ENV:VARIABLE) is not legal, I can't think of a way to assign a variable the output of a command. So, is it legal?

Then, what about variables? I noticed that variables within quotes aren't expanded (f.ex. "$VARIABLE" is treated literally).

I'm asking because I'm writing the installer script for BOH.
After finding out that the Installer tool doesn't support the copyfiles statement, I thought I'd just write a simple shell script, but the variable-in-quotes problem doesn't allow me to accept a user-specified path (because it could contains spaces). Therefore, at the moment, the script simply installs BOH to RAM:BOH (which can then be moved anywhere).

Local variables aren't working

Global variables should work.

Ah, yes, I had already noticed this. But I was indeed talking about global variables.
