I also think a foundation could be a good way to promote AROS or raise money and have a legal entity. It could improve the image of AROS a lot.
One thing that has to be avoided is a mistake that IMO has been in previous efforts to make AROS organizations. This is that there often was a goal of steering the AROS developers by some form of democratic process that would decide how and what would be developed for AROS; or to say it more bluntly some bunch of non-programmers that would by committee decide what the AROS devs would need to do.
I don't have anything against user experience gathering and reporting to the developers the biggest short comings. Even organizing some targeted bounties to overcome these is no problem. But one has to be careful to not get into the situation where the organization feels it is the master of the direction of AROS development. Open source does not work like that (at least not the open source I want to contribute to).
If for example the organization should decide to pay a developer to implement something they should be sure it is aligned with ideas of the other AROS devs or at least that there does not exist too much resistance. Otherwise such initiatives can be counterproductive as it can drive away the open source programmers.

greets,
Staf.

Yep,

but a fan club and a legal entity is welcome. And I think that devs could be "paid" for other things like porting apps and writing driver. Sure this would be no dictation..

Especially I was talking about "an" AROS e.V. ... NOT "THE one and only" AROS e.V. which "rules" about AROS. Ruling is impossible and not the intention.
In germany everyone is free to start an "foundation" to support anything.

But i really fear that even getting 7 people together who subscribe in order to get it registered can be a bit tricky.

1. It is work (at least if you are ambitious)
2. It needs time (at least if you are ambitious)

Money could be used to "send" members across germany to promote AROS.
The foundation can buy displays http://www.easydisplay.com/werbeaufsteller/faltdisplays.html
Perhaps making a "advert in a larger PC-Mag"
and so on.

For members there could be a monthly digital AROS tips&tricks paper (AmigaFuture could print this)
Exclusive gifts, discounts whatever.. sponsored by supportive dealers.
Members could organize larger orders to get better prizes on some stuff
and so on.

Well 7 people.

We have 2 already (including me) but Qbit wants to be be in the background (which is ok btw.) So in fact still 6 to go : D

Reminds me on Stephen's initiative...

@phoenixconsole

I'm in as a regular Member.. and I could convince my girl friend to become Member too if the fee is not to high! that's three!

Pascal, Jorge, Carmen.. what about Olaf.. and the Natami people.. ?
I could write something @ http://natami.net

Is it o.k. to call it Aros e.V.?
I wrote at natami.net some words asking for members of the Aros.e.V.

We would need to check this. I would pay a lawyer/notary.
I found a "Musikverein AROS e.V"...
I assume a "Computerverein zur Förderung des freien Betriebssystemes AROS e.V" would be no problem...

or short:
CZFDFBA e.V. : D just kidding.

Edit:
Why not! AROS is essential for Natami! Would be logical.

da müssen wir hin.

EDIT:
Naja... ein "nicht steuerbegünstigter Verein" als "Kleinunternehmer" ist auch i.O : )

Was wären da die Pflichten? Und wo der Sitz?

So ein Vereinsleben (als Institution) kann ziemlich zeitaufwendig sein.

Alternativ könnte man dann auch einfach lokale Clubs gründen. Ich könnte z.B. eine Newsletter erstellen und versenden.

If the idea of the e.V. is too much we can at least do more for marketing:
monthly Newsletter (could I do)
create local clubs/groups
we need a central information page with all informations (supported hardware, installation...), right now it is too complicated to find for outsiders
marketing-prospect (PDF) to download
one central comitee (that is supported by other people) that coordinates central activities (meet a fairy, big meeting one time a year...)

What do you think?

Well... clubs are ok. But having an e.V would be better.
Since AROS fanbase is quite small it would be as easy as to work as "Kleinunternehmer" so i don't fear the "work" behind this.

As long other share or do the work bout the website and so on.
Basically a page like the one from Reactos with an app database/HW-Database would not be bad.

But I would prefer a page which just redirects to the existing Wiki.

In detail this needs to be discussed later.
For now the question is.. is it worth to start one? Is there a chance to get "enough members" to be able to "rock with or without schedule" ?

I mean the e.V needs a fee. It should be as low as possible. The e.V itself should not suck to much for it's own..

Website Hosting is about 9,90 per year.... there should be added a small amount for organisation of events, buying equipment (displays for fairy), sending out a group of members to those fairies..
Everyting else could be additionally paid by selling stuff.

The more members we the better and it would lowering the fix member fee.
I am not sure if it is wise to include a fix amount of money which will be used to pay to bounties..
I think promoting/collecting just in time would be better. (alternatively there could be an survey per month.. so money could be splitted in percents )..
On top everything earned which goes about the needs of the e.V should /and must be donated to AROS projects (in 99.99% of all cases it will be a bounty)

So... first... we need enough members : )

PS: I would manage it but i have not so much time to travel much around.. so for this task we would need interested / willing members.

At present Aros I am making it known to my friends!

Steps to follow from my point of view of the new Aros user:

1st graphics card compatibility + Nvidia + Ati + Intel = controllers

2nd compatibility of sound cards = controllers
3rd compatibility of Tajretas de Red = drivers

4th Icaros Desktop is the most downloaded, but the main one must be Aros.

5th I also want an x86 / x64 version but the i386 is not finalized and now
we want to make the jump to x86 / x64.

6th. The meni on the central desktop, but it would be for
put the main programs,
Not a super long menu is not effective.

7º translate to my Spanish language the Aros, also the installation manual,
I help, eventually, and they promote me in my country.

8th people want games, it's like an operating system is released, then it goes to the programs, those programs are not translated, for ordinary people impossible.

9th the way to install should be simplified, but all drivers, programs ect.

10º The nobatos do not know how to turn off the Aros, someone tells me how to press the button, instead of pressing and holding the button for seconds, we are not in 1997.

11º Anyone who is not a programmer who helps translate the operating system,
other programs, manuals, other forums, other bloggles, in each Country
and so we will reach more people.

10º we will take Aros seriously, to the final user,
the little things are important

11th, I repeat; Morphos is eating the cake because we are arguing!

12th It's time to give everything for Aros!

13th If I hos organize musquearia to more than one,
Let me take control, and you will know what the cane is,
      Hahaha
