If someone wants to improve this, he can try to compile/optimize this (rom/graphics/text.c) on AmigaOS (maybe even AOS4 or MorphOS) with a little program which patches this into the system with SetFunction(). Doesn't rely on AROS internals, so no problem (disable antialiasing related stuff on AOS3). Then compare how much slower this is then original AOS function. Then optimize until it doesn't suck anymore ... then contribute back to AROS.

how about setting up aros68k and amigaos in uae on the same hardware config next to each other and use library timer to compare tome spent in a function while particular operation?

i assume we are talking about a function called from outside the library via lvo (is that the right term?) or jumptable, if so it should be traceable.

this has been so far my method at least.

How to get it back?

seems to be a general issue in aros team these days. therefore cooperation with the apollo team might lend us some current ;).

georg has completely unexpectedly delivered few essential fixes, i have been begging for years, just after some heated discussion with thor on a1k. this has actually made aros rtg finally usable on real amigas, im totally thankful, because the fixes wernt trivial in my eyes. if not the remaining issue, ive spoken of, georg mentions at the beginning of his post, id have approached appollo team with this again. though it seems they have not given up on aros yet, anyway. must drop by in irc one of these days.

When I looked at the open-source Vampire P96 driver on GitHub, it looked like it was relying entirely on software fallbacks for its drivers. No vector support has been added.

Georg, would you like to join? We can send you a Dev system.

We think we need someone to write us a native SAGA AROS driver which could improve things a lot.

Hi All,

In order to kickstart AROS 68k development I'm preparing a basic pre-configured development environment for 68k.

Here is first version:

http://download.aros3d.org/software/AROS68kDevPack20160802.tar.gz

Content:
- AROS ROM images
- AROS Core System
- AROS SDK (Core + 3rd party libraries)
- Working GCC/G++, SH and Make
- Basic documentation

The environment is assembled under FS-UAE with JIT enabled.

Feedback welcomed!

congrats, krzysztof! exciting news! ;)

edit: will look at it in the evening when home in berlin again, but does that mean that we are generally aiming at aros being compilable under aros again?

AROS compiles under AROS in ABIV0. In trunk it at least misses python and perl.

I would not recommend trying native compilation under 68k. On my FS-UAE setup which shows 1000 MIPS, C compiler works 3x slower than on i386 and C++ compiler about 10x slower. This native SDK in that DevPack is aimed at compilations of small components. I will publish second version which will have scripts to create a cross-compilation environment under Linux for building AROS 68k.

thats right. still i think this is a cool thing to have a set up environment witha all tools/packages installed to compile itself. it qould make sense on v1 x86/x64. and it might make sense for 68k purists who compile on real hardware like thor ;). some of them are left out there.
