sabbate: Have you noticed when this happen? I know that some times when I play MAME the system can freeze and I have to reboot, but that is probably a matter or the software and not AROS. Does this happen when you just go around in the system openening folders etc?

yes, it happened to me with some games, with dopus while I was transferring many files, and using multiple applications at the same time

sabbate: Yes, I see. Kind of when you stress the system. I also experienced problems like that. I think AROS needs to be handled with some care ;)
I don't think it has anything to do with latest night builds though. We have to be little carefull with statements that got no hold. One thing is what we can think or imagine other thing is what is for real.
Best way to proff something is if you have a way to reproduce it. At least give as detalied information as you can about the problem.

sabbate: I would not copy multible files at the same time. Even if AmigaOS or AROS for that matter is made to be multitasking at least the filesystem (SFS) is not as reliable as you could wish for. If AROS goes down when you copy multible files it is a chance that your partition gets messed up and you have to format.

Talking about this could it not be an option in installer to format second partition with something other than sfs?
I know Amiga or MorphOS has something like that.

At least always be sure to backup AROS system partition. Best would be to external USB drive even if I never was that unlucky that both my SFS paritions got problems.
I always backup SYS: to Work:
Other way around might be more problematic if you don't have lot's of disk space. I for sure had problems with my work partition too and needed a format.
Thankfully it does not happen to often.

edit: I just looked at ice file system. Maybe we should talk to him about a possible bounty or port?

http://blubbedev.net/icefs/

edit: maybe we could contact the autour of
http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/sfsdoctor-1.1
and get the sourcecode?

edit: I sent him mail.

If we can not get it we could always buy a MorphOS mashine and put the drive with sfs problems there to repair it :P

I had no validation errors on the hard disk despite the freeze occurred, before I copied a lot of files from a stick, all right, but I'm using the old build that I mentioned before, a new file system would take, but it seems to me that the same sfs on morph and os4 go better or am I wrong?

sabbate: sfs is the default file system for at least MorphOS. Like you said it is developed and I think it is sfs2 or something. I'm not sure we have any of the updates. What we would need is something like sfs doctor I guess. That might solve most problems as we don't have any tools to fix problems if they happen.
