The issue is somewhere among Lua executables, libraries and AROS system files. As I said, nothing in hostbridge has changed.

I've made some progresses here, but I guess I'll have to investigate better on this. From what I could notice

222 Light hosted on Windows: hostbridge WORKS
221 Live! hosted on Windows: hostbridge WORKS
222 Light hosted on LINUX: hostbridge DOES NOT WORK
221 Live! hosted on LINUX: hotbridge WORKS*

* after I manually copy files from cdrom/.Linux/hosteddir to sys:system/Hosted

Why is version 2.2.2 running hosted correctly on WINDOWS, but not on LINUX? Files are the same...

Ehehehe now fixed. The issue was sillier than I thought.

Just chmod +rw -R your AROS system/Hosted directory.

Now I added this path to the "fix permissions" section of Icaros hosted install script on Linux, and everything works as expected. By the way, I guess this should have fixed another issue I got some time ago, when I could not copy the hosted contents correctly.

All tryes where done with 2048M memory for Icaros.

Never tried it with that high amount of memory!
That is exactly the theoretical limit of 32bit-AROS (Icaros).
Maybe try it with 512?

2048 is a valid amount of memory. You'd be sure, of course, your host system can allocate them for Icaros. I generally start Icaros hosted with 1024 (the virtual machine I'm running Linux on, has 3 GB of RAM).

Is this likely to have anything to do with the fact that when I tried it (hosted on Ubuntu 17.10) if I click on the 'Host' folder when Magellan is the desktop it displays the contents as expected. If I do the same when I have configured Icaros to use Wanderer I get a hard crash of Icaros and have to reboot it?

No, this is a completely different issue. You can actually read Host: contents both with the shell and Magellan. You may try also with ScalOS to see if there is any difference. Probably Wanderer is trying to do something wrong with that, and maybe presenting Host: as a read-only media might mitigate the issue. I'll try to find a clean way to do that.

Have you tried running Icaros as root, just to test?

EDIT: I was right. Another permission issue, although unrelated to the other one. See screenshot when running Icaros with sudo.

Strangely the forum has an emote for "Thumbs Down" but not one for "Thumbs Up" !!

Great. Please just test but DO NOT RUN ICAROS DESKTOP AS ROOT or with root priviledges in your common day use. HostBridge's daemon is very dumb and would execute any dangerous/stupid command it receives from the user.

I tested and can confirm what you said that it does not crash when run as root. But as you say, we cannot do that. Not least because if you start saving prefs etc., when you run as normal user you no longer have permissions to save things!

Sadly my experience goes from bad to worse. I will start a new thread when I have all of the information to hand.

I really want this to work because I like what I can see, I just cannot get it to run well. Unfortunately I don't have the option of installing old versions of Linux etc. on this machine as it is used for other things and if I was going to setup a new machine then it may as well be a machine built from scratch with native compatible components.

I also don't really need that since I have an Aspire One ZG5 now.
