Ok.

In the console are the following (irrelevent stuff removed)

WARNING: base gamedir id1/ not found!

Couldn't exec quake.rc
Couldn't exec default.cfg
Couldn't exec config.cfg
Couldn't exec autoexec.cfg

- FWIW, the directory does indeed exist in the same location as the Nexuiz SDL binary.

I have looked at my console output, and it says this:
Quote:
WARNING: base gamedir /data not found!
Added packfile data/common_sprog.pk3 (26 files)
Added packfile data/data20091001.pk3 (9053 files)

Interesting... and what's more interesting, is that the nexuiz binary searches for Quake datafiles in your case. I have a few ideas, I'm going to try them later today.

I was able to get Nexuiz to run last night in Windowed mode. Though for some reason I lost control of the Window before I was able to play the game.

I was rather busy last night, will give it another go today.

As for DarkPlaces, it seemed to run just fine in Windowed mode.

After some more testing - it only seems to be a problem when launched from Wanderer.

Manually launching it from the shell works very well ;)

Whew, then the problem is simpler than I thought! I'm going to add PROGDIR: to the search path, hopefully that will solve this.

Meanwhile I was tinkering with the network code, and I'm convinced that the problems are caused by the non-blocking sockets. Interestingly enough it has some fallback code, but it doesn't seem to work either. I'm going to take a look at how things are done on the Cube2 front. Nexuiz could be a great game to show off AROS's graphics capabilities, but it's worthless without working multiplayer.

I forgot to mention, I can only run these via Command Line as well.

Can't wait till the graphic card drivers get fixed so we can play these in full screen without artifacting! :)

@jeffrey1138:
Okay, so the dpad is working with the game, but the analog stick desn't?

These messages sound a bit conflicting. Have you tried your joystick with other games which use SDL to handle joysticks? For instance xRick.

@BZsili

It's a buggy controller adapter for analogue use... xRick does not give the same jerky behavior but deadwood's testjoystick does. Another adapter gives perfect results - so thanks for the help but I will use this other one instead .

Thanks
Jeff

I found out why Nexuiz doesn't work, when you start it from wanderer. The two binaries are in fact the same, the game uses a startup-time checking of the executable name, and sets the game mode accordingly. This works if you start it from the CLI, but it won't work with wanderer, because argv[0] is empty in that case.
Is there any way to determine the executable's name without the CLI structure?
