this is good news, but the software to take on this architecture is so much and who will do it?

hi all

hi all

i dont know if i understand you correctly, but this is not a question of particular architecture.

imho, what we need rather than binaries is a collection of sources that easily compile for all or at least as much as possible aros platforms.

this ensures usability of the system even if it is being updated and occasionally rendered incompatible.

i personally take aros build system as reference.

to be honest, for me the current compile for x86 is just a "by the way" sort of result. my true intention is to bring odyssey to amiga-m68k

I wanted to say only that when the branch abiv1 is ready, we need to bring all the software available for abiv0.

hi

hi

my policy is to prepare the availability of essential software prior to when abi v1 is ready, because we dont know when it will be ready and it doesnt look like it would be any soon.

currently i am working on getting odyssey cross compile for other platforms than x86. as expected icu is the major issue. it appears to only fully compile natively either for i386 or x86_64. would be great if anyone could lend a hand with it, even though i dont have much hope.

thanks wawa, I currently use the stable version abiv0 and I think it's not the only one, it works very well, we can not complain, I'm sorry that many programmers have left the scene.

It appears to be written in C++11 according to https://ssl.icu-project.org/trac/ticket/13393 so do we have a new enough GCC on those other hardware platforms? Maybe the problem is actually libStdC++.

no. we have binutils 2.25 and gcc 6.3.0 and both ppc and m68k compile with it.

1. the Problem is firstly icu, as it apparently never has been configured enough to crosscompile. im looking into this (again) and also to eventuelly update it to the current version, as kalamatee told me that it might be more portable, but since none more knowledgable solved it yet im not sure im qualified enough to.

icu has to be built first on host in order to compile some tools then used to generate data for the target as far as i understand. thats where it fails:

/home/wawa/aros-m68k-630/bin/linux-i386/tools/crosstools/icu4c/bin/genbrk: can not initialize ICU. status = U_FILE_ACCESS_ERROR

it has been a known issue at ist time building for mac-os:
https://trac.macports.org/ticket/20250
ive tried to fix it upon Workaround mentioned further below:
https://trac.macports.org/changeset/55654
more specifically:
https://trac.macports.org/browser/trun ... _configure.diff?rev=55654
either for ppc or 68k platforms but no effect so far.

2. further way up there are problems with overloaded calls probably due to conflicting/overlapping type definitions on platfoms in question. i can give further details on that later, as im currently not on my promary build system and i dont have necessary logs at hand. other than that i usually report my problems to the dev mailing list.
