Wow! I was wondering about AM4.

Paolo: very cool!!! That was fast. Lets hope we will see Aros64 make the path for a new mothern amiga platform. Will be
Nice to see arm 64 with plenty of cores running aros.

Ryzen 1600x = 6 cores, not 12. Twelve threads though.
Granted, the YouTube clip is titled that way, so I assume 12 "cores" was a typo.
Far from important, but the OCD in me couldn't refrain. :)

On a more serious note though, very cool.
I was wondering how AROS multicore would deal with multithreaded CPUs. Nice to see it works as "normal". :)

Well, I guess the OCD in you should pay more attention to words and descriptions. I wrote "ryzen based virtual machine", which means I have defined a VM with a 12-core processor and ran AROS onto it. Each of these 12 virtual cores would run on a logical host processor core, so basically 6 physical and 6 "multithreaded".

There is still an abstraction layer between AROS and the host processor, I had no time to burn a CD-RW and connect a SATA optical drive, try AROS onto it and deal with probable AHCI issues at boot. But the video depicts a realistic figure of how AROS would run on the metal as well (it should be just a little faster, though, both for the virtualization layer and the video capturing program stealing processor, memory and disk time).

When / if you have time, since you have the Ryzen setup, could you confirm wether or not it boots AROS native? If successful, please share the full bill of materials. that would truly help more people get onboard.

@Paolone

Perhaps *YOU* take more notice/care with your wording.
You've missed the point completely.
"AMD 12 core Ryzen 1600 based virtual machine" can suggest the host system has 12 cores, rather than the VM.

Perhaps apply a bit of thought and care in what you write before you respond like a smart ass?

Just a thought.

I also would like to know what AM4 hardware you are using.
Is there a todo list for Aros SMP?
edit:
Thanks again for the Ryzen video.

Hi,

Please ignore, dma issue.

Just tried a Live Cd from a day or so ago native on an AMD zacate dual chip mini itx which boots but freezes the system after clicking on any desktop device icon (window sometimes shows but nothing displayed). Then need to switch off. Tried on vesa 32bit and 16bit so far.

Would serial output be any use? Never done this so could take a while...

@trekiej

Ryzen virtual machine was running under VMware Player (latest release, I guess 12.5). The host machine is based on a B350 Fatal1ty motherboard from ASRock, with a couple of 8 GB DDR4-3200 RAM modules and a quite old SATA hard drive.

@Kalamatee, Trekiej and others

I tried running AROS nightly build on this motherboard, and it almost boots. With 'almost boots' I mean it gets into Intuition, but instead of loading Wanderer it shows a series of AFFS filesystem errors (see photo). There are NO AROS partitions on the hard drive. This motherboard does not have IDE connectors, nor SATA drives can be set to IDE legacy mode in BIOS. They can work only in AHCI and RAID modes.

Good news is that it also detects 1920x1080 monitor correctly and I don't need to specify it: the default grub option opens the graphic screen in the correct resolution. Sorry I can't get further using ANY option. Setting nodma does not help either.
