Hello,

it's also thanks to your support that I can happily report that BOH passed the first round of the Indie of the Year Awards!

Now, if you wish to help BOH make it to the finals, just:
1. go here;
2. click on the "Adventure" category in the "TOP 100 RELEASED INDIES OF 2010" list;
3. locate BOH's line (it should be the third);
4. click on "VOTE".
(And, if you can, spread the word!)
It's easy and, like before, no registration is required!

Thanks once again!

Hello,

today I've been preparing the packages of the 14th update, but, when I built the new version of BOH for AROS, I had a bad surprise: the red and blue channels were swapped around (both in full screen and in window) ! :(

I did the same things I always do:
1. I downloaded the latest mingw32-i386-system;
2. I downloaded the latest pc-i386-boot-iso;
3. I copied the Development directory from the ISO into the hosted install;
4. I built my sources.
It looks like the system pixel format detection by SDL doesn't give correct results, at least here.
(BTW: no part relative to graphics handling has been touched in BOH's code and, anyway, the graphics look fine on the same machine under Windows, under Linux and on my A1 under AmigaOS.)

So, while I check whether the same happens also under Linux, can anybody please test this new version of the demo and report how colors appear? I'm in a terrible hurry, since the update should be released tomorrow and I should have a new ISO image ready for saturday.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: no luck with Linux - AROS crashes at startup. More precisely, this is what happens after a plain install:
* the asf.handler crashes in the function strlen();
* removing the handler solves the problem, but then aros-base crashes in the function strncpy() - which, of course, can't be fixed by simply removing the aros-base module.
I shiver at the thought of trying under a VM...

Hi Simone, as you already know AROS is a "moving target" and there is also the chance that your channel swap issue may arise with your video drivers only, while on other ones it may not appear. It might also be a problem of current codebase, anyway your report would be more precious if you said what flavour of AROS is affected by the problem, using what driver on what hardware.

Yes, but it's a bit strange because the machine I'm using has been the same for years and... well, read below ;)

AROS is the latest nightly build of the hosted version for Windows (mingw32-i386-system + pc-i386-boot-iso, as said in the previous post).
I made the build and tested it using the default driver; at some point I also tried the SDL driver (by enabling it in prefs.hidd), but AROS was too crashy to be usable.
The machine, running Windows XP, has an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ CPU and an ATI Radeon 7500 graphics card.

One question I forgot: are the SDL libraries included in the nightly builds the latest ones? To me it looks like a problem with SDL, since the rest of the system renders graphics correctly.

Tried out the latest Boh demo with the latest Icaros version.

Vesa = window Ok, fullscreen Ok.
Nouveau16 = window gray, fullscreen Ok.
Nouveau24 = window Ok, fullscreen scrambled.

I get the same results with any Sdl game on my setup. So I think you are Ok.

Btw, it's been a while since I've tried the Boh demo. There are so many little improvements that it almost seems like Boh II. A big thumbs up!

Thanks a lot for reporting!
It's normal that the 16/24-bit modes don't work - BOH requires 32-bit modes.

Great!
However, still I do want graphics to look nicely also here - now I'm downloading today's nightly builds to see if anything changed. EDIT: no, same result.

Just wanted to let you know I have now tried also with the development tools included in the latest Icaros, but results are the same. I'm about to try with those from Icaros 1.2.4 (EDIT: same result).

I made more tests with the development trees from Icaros 1.1.5, 1.2.0 and 1.2.3: no luck. However, I tested a freshly built demo (built with the latest nightly build) on Icaros under VM always on the same machine, and everything was fine.

It looks like it's just a problem of AROS running hosted. Therefore, I'll proceed with the release of update14... you'll hear soon from me
(In the meanwhile, I've updated the official demo.)

Hello again,

you already know why I'm here

The 14th update is now out! It ups the total number of missions to a whopping 50 (for many tens of hours of play), brings a few enhancements and makes life easier to who enjoys creating his own missions!

Click to see original Image in a new window

More specifically, this update:
* reworks the advanced automapper (the realistic mode has been replaced with the fullscreen view, which allows to see more; the controls have been made more comfortable);
* improves the video modes suggestions;
* allows terminating map lines with CR+LF;
* improves error logging;
* improves the graphics of blocks in theme "C64";
* adds 5 new missions;
* retouches slightly a few missions;
* retouches slightly the Spanish translation;
* updates the manuals;
* applies various other changes.

The update can be downloaded for free from the DOWNLOADS page of the official website.
The demos have been updated to reflect the changes.

Enjoy!
