I would agree with you, but not everyone is there is already a bounty open for a 64-bit distribution all you have to do and give to be able to have a stable version with maybe Bundled software

we all agree to start from the bounty of the x86-64 distribution and then see how to proceed to port applications

IMHO an ABIv1 32bit distribution for i386 is completely pointless. We already have a quite nice software base running on ABIv0 which will be only partially available on ABIv1 once switch will be done.

IMO you make the wrong assumption that changes done to AROS in ABIv1 will always be backported to v0 to eternity.

Abiv0 needs to die so that application developers can focus on a single abi.

Frankly as a user it comes down to watching how it's going to be handled. I would prefer that more application developers spent the time porting to abiv1. however I can understand the fear of not knowing if a binary will not work in a week. I've questioned before why the current branch isn't deemed stable and a new development branch created.

Could someone come up with a plan here of what needs to be done so we could have a stable abi v.1 branch ?

Either that or just use what we have. It's been years now waiting for abi v.1 to be ready.

I think we have to settle this. Should be some kind of developers poll. I guess not every developer have the same opinions etc. I would say that this should happen within 2017.

"we have to settle this"? Its up to the developers what will happen and when. Use the version you are comfortable with.

I'm in the process to clean up my programs to compile with ABIv1 64bit, some are already working, some need some attention.

I have also to look at dependencies, I already have a doubt about NListTree Zune class being 64bit compliant, if someone has tested it successfully let me know...

I'm a favor of switching to ABIv1 and also to 64bit, however, we, third party developers, have to be able to really on a stable base/ABI.

As long as ABI is evolving we can't ensure that applications will be available and working and this will not help final users and will not give a good picture of AROS to new comers.

until then you will have a stable base I think we will continue with the branch abiv0 eventually usable and applications run properly
