The simple way to check if ahci.device has anything to do with the problem is to temporarily disable it. In the GRUB menu, press E, then go down to the ahci.device entry and delete it by pressing Ctrl-K twice. Then boot with Ctrl-X. If AROS still boots, try running OWB as you usually do and check if the freeze occurs. If AROS doesn't boot, your HD needs ahci.device.

I don't know if ahci.device could be a problem when you run from the RAM disk, it's just a theory to check.

Tried to delete ahci.device but nothing changed. That's really strange. It works well with all other programs I tried. Only OWB has this strange behaviour. Just out of curiosity... does VICE usually slows down the system when launched? Here with a 3 ghz cpu I can see the menus building on the screen.
