That's a pity. You never know, I might buy one of these boards since it's fairly cheap.

Cheap, but unfortunately not cheerful for AROS. No on-board USB (at least with ABI0; I keep meaning to try it with ABI1) and onboard SATA doesn't work either. So, despite its low cost, in hindsight 'not the best choice for AROS' is a bit of an understatement!

Cheers,
Nigel.

@ntromans

Did you get my email? I'm not sure if the address I used is still valid.

Yes - I've just looked at that. That would be fine - details e-mailed back.

Cheers,
Nigel.

Hi Nigel,

As you know, I picked up a very similar board. And I've experienced similar problems.

Regarding the USB, the manual claims that if XHCI mode is disabled in the BIOS, all USB ports are routed to an EHCI controller. However, when I disable XHCI, all USB ports cease working (at least the ones on the back panel; I haven't wired up any of the USB headers). So either the BIOS is buggy, or there isn't really an EHCI chip on the board. Have you experimented with this option (caution: I would have been locked out of my board except that mine has a PS/2 board I was able to plug a keyboard into; I don't think yours has one)?

I haven't been able to check the audio yet as I can't boot AROS. I might get a PCI(e) USB 2.0 card like you did.

Hi Neil,
Yes, I has exactly the same USB issue - very frustrating. I reset the BIOS by shorting the reset pins, but mine does have a PS/2 connector too.

Cheers,
Nigel.

P.S. Another new addition for this machine might be of interest to anyone reading this in the UK. Currently in the 'bargain bin' of Maplins you may find a Speedlink 'Strike NX' wireless gamepad which claims to be just for the PS3 console - don't beleve a word of it as it configures very nicely as a USB analogue joystick under AROS.

Could there be a BIOS update that fixes this? If you've wired up the USB headers, have you checked if they behave any differently? I just saw now that the tiny GL850S chip that is supposed to provide EHCI is physically present on my board.

Hi Neil,
I haven't tried the onboard header - I suppose it's worth a go. The game pad was £12.

Cheers,
Nigel.

In fact, it looks like the BIOS's behaviour makes the GL850S a waste of space: no EHCI controller is included in the PCI list when I boot Ubuntu on this board, regardless of the XHCI setting in the BIOS.

There seems to be a bios update here in the download section, but from what I can tell you need to be running Windows to install it .

Cheers,
Nigel.
