Me and my testing of the net and the works and the such

So I've been busy. Busy enough to not be able to work on my project with aros, icaros specifically, to be able to work on network stuff. I just want to throw in my issues here that I have found as I go.

So for starts, I am assuming that the Networking menu is the only networking tool and its the only thing described in the manual. With that, according to this page:

https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Pla ... ort#Mini_PCI_.28Laptop.29

The Atheros AR5BXB6 is a supported wireless card, as well as the AR5BXB62, AR5005G, and the Netgear WG111V3. From what I can tell, there isn't a way to actually scan for wireless networks? (?????) Nor is there a way to add them physically. I may also be a dumbass and not know that I need to add a device configuration soooo.... I might just be stupid.

I have not tried the WG111 but I have seen confirmations of it working. I did try both of the aformentioned Atheros chips and neither of them worked, despite being listed. Now, I'm not sure if drivers were just made and never tested, or what not, but at least on my end this stuff isn't doing it.

So am I missing something? I'm going to go through the list of chipsets and wireless cards and try to get them all tested on what I have available and take note of them in this first post and then attack onward from there.

I have a wireless Bluestork BS-WG-USB pen drive (with a supported rtl8187B chipset) and I can't scan for wireless networks, I bought a NetGear WG111v3 and it works well (with a static ip/dns/gateway). I haven't test the dhcp with Icaros 2.2

Hi,

Atheros AR5BXB6 and the AR5BXB62 appear not to work from your testing. Now updated.

Can you give us an idea what type of card (mini pci pcie) you are looking for ?

Jeff

To scan for networks have you double-cliked on the wirelessmanager icon? That should open up a list of identified networks and has scan and connect buttons.

In terms of adding networks, in network prefs in the 'Wireless Networks' tab you can add a network (name, encryption type and passphrase).

Cheers,
Nigel.

I tried the manager and I couldn't get it to ID anything. Am I missing something here? Send an image if you can!

As for mPCIe and mPCI, both actually. For the moment just mPCIe but I will be tackling mPCI very soon, and have in some testing.

Double clicking on wirelessmanager should bring up a window as shown below.

Cheers,
Nigel.

Yeah that never listed anything.

I'm almost curious if the wifi chip is blocked in the bios or isn't compatible with the laptop somehow.... Hmmm.

I tried what should have been a comptable Atheros card in a laptop and a netbook, with it working in neither probaly due to the bios not initialising it properly. That's why I stick with the Netgear USB WiFi dongle - not as neat a solution but it works and works well.

Cheers,
Nigel.

The specific one is Netgear WG111v3 - look for one cheap on ebay.

Cheers,
Nigel.
