So, there were some chatter in the Apollo Team IRC channel today, about low level development;

<@BigGun> guys
<@BigGun> i need your opinion
<@BigGun> I see a number of "TODOs" in AMIGA OS land
<@BigGun> which would help all userxsy
<@BigGun> a) SDCard driver which is faster/ more stable/ can boot
<@BigGun> b) AMIGA OS SCSI.device (for IDE) which supports DMA
<@BigGun> c) DISK/Filesystem cache to improve speed and avoid trashing of flash drivexs
<@BigGun> i think for the AMIGA community it woiuld be good
<@BigGun> if a number of tools/ drivers get developed
<@BigGun> like better SDCard driver , which isb bugfree and can boot
<@BigGun> like SCIS/IDE device which can use DMA
<@BigGun> like a normal filesystem cache which the other OS do have

Basically the topic wandered into bounty to attract a coder/developer to work on this, and I thought about Kalamatee instantly.
I saw Gunnar on Apollo Forum suggesting a loaner Vampire;

[quote="Gunnar von Boehn"]
If he likes to continue we could offer him with a free Vampire loaner.

Anyhow. Just throwing it out there, cause it could be a win win for Kalamatee and Apollo Team....?

AMIGA OS is nice.

it could be even nicer for all of us with

a) an SDCard driver all to boot

b) IDE/SCSI device using DMA

c) a filesystem cache included in the OS

it would be great if any developer would like to help on any of these tasks

It is important to understand, and I have not spoken to him to confirm this. But whilst he is VERY happy with the support from this community, he will probably need a few weeks to get things in his life back to normal. However, I would think if a company is going to follow my previous route of agreed payment for agreed set of work on drivers and the tools provided to do the job then anything is possible. Just give him a little breathing space

Yes indeed clusteruk, I do realise that the LAST thing on his mind at the moment is a compiler, but rather sorting out his day to day life.

But I think its important that the community cross communicates, and point out options/possibilities when they pop up, since quite a few of us misses the odd posts in random IRC chats OR forum threads, since we dont all read everything written.
Then it falls upon each of us to elevate those possibilities, so it can be adressed by the appropiate person when they are able.
If its not flagged, those possibilities will pass under the radar for weeks, months and even years.

@clusteruk

just hope it really worked out for him. it sounded pretty dramatic and might not be as simple to get everything on track again.

I don't think he has an A500 or A600 to plug a Vampire into right now. And the stand-alone isn't ready for use without a complete core.

certainly we would find a way to offer him a system for that vampire. even if it was a loan not a donation. but then, im not sure he is interested to have another hardware to mess with. i can imagine it might be a burden, as it would be for me currently.

there is a lot of things a deveoper can implement platform independent, with the rough testing under uae if need be. already this task can be offloaded to tereters, like me, as its consuming valuable development time otherwise. testing with real target hardware is a further step, the testers should be considered with. at least thats what my comprehension of the process is.

My intension isnt/wasnt to pressure him in any way, merely present an option for collecting bounties for developerwork.

I am sad i cant contribute. Kal is really a friend (brother), maybe someone (as company) could hire him as a full time dev?

I live reasonably close to him (30 miles or so) and I have a couple of A600's and an A500 I'm willing to donate for that. If he decides to take it on, of course.
