I got a 32bit slackware running on my aros box. I want to cross compile some software over to icaros desktop. What kind of toolchain do I need to get started.

Hi,

maybe this can help you:
http://amifreak.ftp.sh/post/setting-up-environment-to-start
It is for debian/ubuntu but if you already have build tools (binutils, make, autoconf, etc) and GCC installed you can skip part with installing packages.

you can also use vbcc to cross-compile to AmigaOS.
if your code runs under AmigaOS, porting to AROS shouldn't be a problem (using native AROS gcc).
requires some setup (e.g. some AmigaOS), but you get the benefit of an AmigaOS binary. :)

(if you're not interested in supporting AmigaOS, gcc/binutils/... cross-compiler toolchain is probably better suited for you. you can re-use/write more posix/linux/gcc style code, and you skip the whole AmigaOS setup part (e.g. net.lib for networking functions for vbcc).)

You would require the normal (but patched) gnu toolchain.

Patches can be found in aros source-tree. In addition to that you would need collect-aros (also found inside aros source-tree).

You could also opt for the gimmearos script (available in aros source-tree and/or aros archives) that could help you setup things.

More information can also be found here and for other requirements (building aros itself) see also here.

If you are running on intel then it would just as easy to compile under hosted, that usually works with installing the development package and when projects are not too large/complicated.

One way to get the cross compilers is to build AROS from source code. Of course, if you want to run the binaries under Icaros you must use the ABIv0 branch.
