AROS sound driver development for Realtek® ALC887

Hi

So far I have had no luck with getting somebody to help with sound driver development for this chipset.

Realtek® ALC887 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC *2

Unless of course it already works

Any body interested before I throw the net wider?

I picked this as a lot of new motherboards have this chip set on board already.

Thought?

Steve

Hi,

It has worked in the past around 2011

Is it the ALC887-GR or the ALC887-VD or ALC887-VD2 or some sort of latest revision?

So it might be case of a small amount of tweaking. I suspect a dev might want the logs to see what's happening.

Hi Steve,

Please test with the V6.27 HDAudio driver I posted recently. If it doesn't work, try the version in Storage in Icaros to get a log to send me and I'll take a look when I return from holidays in about a week.

Hi Jeff and Neil

Interesting to note it may be working already, sorry for my slow response, working hard on a new case design to try and bring all Amiga communities together

One of the boards I have for testing is this one

https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/H110-PLUS/specifications/

Realtek® ALC887 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC *1

Happy to try and see if we have driver already. As certain things are being worked on, I need ALC887 support from modern boards to build a reference set of boards that can be used in my new case below.

Happy to supply a board if needed

clusteruk,

Your case designs are very interesting. Thanks!

The socket 1151 boards are quite nice. I have one.

It might make for a good retro AROS machine.
Having Realtek is a plus!

any driver development is mostly welcome. I would like to see more supported intelGMA chips. Would make it more easy to find some native gfx laptop hardware.
Regarding wi-fi it is quite easy as the supported Atheros wi-fi card is easy and cheap to find on e-bay. With most laptops it is just a matter of open a slot on the back of it, take out the old one and replace it.

Stephen: We should go to China and find some fully supported cheap AROS laptop we could sell :D

At startup you could choose AROS or Linux. Within Linux it would also be set up for AROS hosted.

Would make a good development platform + a fully supported platform where AROS is fully working.

I can not stand VESA gfx.

We kind of have ACER aspire one, but it is getting way outdated. We need something that can have higher resolution + a bit more powerfull CPU and GPU and 64-bit ready.
Does not need to be something very advanced hardware vise.
Important to keep the price low.
I guess fully supported AROS laptop 12 inch, some Atom cpu with intel gpu would be more than good enough.
Atheros wi-fi card should be easy to get hold on to install without doing a new wi-fi driver.

Show this piece of hardware with the new janus-uae running some classic 68k out of the box and it could sell well if the price is right. I'm thinking around 300£ would be perfect. The profit if any would go back to AROS development.

The way I see it. It is a matter of getting hold on some no brand Intel Atom based laptops from china and find someone to do the driver for the gpu. Get some stickers with AROS and install everything in it and there you have it ready to be sent all over the world ;)

Hi nikolaos

Now I am only interested in building high end desktop AROS machines, I have already done my bit with IntelGMA.

However, new drivers should be coming soon
