Full Java VM/SDK for AROS/IcarosDesktop - WISHLIST Item

We know AROS / IcarosDesktop is built to run on top of modern x86 platform. While it is built from the Amiga API platform, it is by far bound to the limits of original classic Amiga.

Wishlist: Full modern Java VM / SDK port. In part, it is a goal and intent to facilitate 2d and 3d games created in JMonkeyEngine. I'm not wishing that burden on the core AROS team or that of IcarosDesktop core developer(s).

Being able to bring full Java VM to run anything created in Java on a modern x86 based AROS system. The goal of being able to effectively port JMonkeyEngine to AROS/IcarosDesktop or running games and other software using JMonkeyEngine and Java.

Also, a relatively up to date full Java VM on AROS/IcarosDesktop would also allow libGDX and apps/games written using libGDX to possibly run on AROS/IcarosDesktop.

We can argue about the merits of Java or C/++ or all that until we are blue in face.

It is likely possible to do this to some extent on a hosted configuration. I'm looking for this in Native AROS/Icaros Desktop configuration.

To add:

I believe there is a 2.x version of JamigaVM.... now called JamVM. With the OpenJDK/IcedTea, it should be able to support modern Java 8 (JDK/OpenJDK 7+) which is sufficient for JMonkeyEngine developer specs. For just minimum user run-time requirements.... Java 5 or higher specifications.

The big question is what is the status of JamVM for AROS/IcarosDesktop.

If that can be fully supported with the OpenJDK, this would be great.

There is two general specs for development and for user runtime.
