I didnt try 2.2.2 until now.
Icaros desktop 2.2.1 runs linux hosted using Ubuntu 16, 32bit
or Zorin OS 12.0, 32 bit with limitations: network is unstable, so I switched it off. So I dont know whether OWB
crashes. Estimated 80% to 90% of all the other AROS stuff works fine. I have tried it with several PC hardware platforms.

The fun is, i now ave installed debian 7 (!!!) on an old Athlon X2 System with 1 GiB of memory. Here Icaros runs nearly stable, with networking and browsing with OWB seems stable enought to write this post.
Only thing i do not get to work is hostbridge. I can't add any linux app to the hostbridge, i only get lua error like:

lua:amiluaS:Replacer.lua:161attempt to index global 'filehdl' (a nil value)
stack traceback:

S:Replacer.lua:161in main chunk

[C]:  in ?

No clue, what it means.

I get a LOT of the system crashes on my hosted system like you posted about. But I have not really reported it or looked into it because rather than Icaros I am running bare Aros, nightly, ABIv1 which is the bleeding edge of development.

My host is Ubuntu 17.10 64bit (currently). I do get the impression that an older version of OS on the host is likely to be better.

On my main pc, even the nightly AROS with ABIv1 is not usuable.
On the other hand, there are not many apps ready for that ABI.

Now i have Icaros running also on a Thinkpad T410 with underlaying Debian 7 and kernel 3.16.

It is relative stable besides Wookie Chat is chrashing, and AiRcOS can't connect to OFTC irc network.

The same system on a Thinkpad T420 is unstable too. That's all mysterious, since the Hardware of the T410 is nearly the same as the T420.

I would realy like to use that hostbridge functionalty, so i could alternatively use the native linux apps as replacement for the unstable network apps but running on the nice desktop of aros.

That is the reason for me, to use icaros, because it would be the killer-feature if it would work.

1. please check wether replacer.lua actually exists in sys:S

2. please tell me the full AROS and LINUX paths of the application you're trying to integrate with HostBridge.

Yes, it exists, otherwise the error would be different.

1st test should be a simple thing, so i tryed xterm.
Linux: /usr/bin/xterm
Aros: Host:usr/bin/xterm

Thanks you, I can reproduce (and confirm) the issue.

I wander what's changed, though, from version 2.2.1 which could generate it, since neither hostbridge files, nor S:Replacer.lua, had changed in the meanwhile.

Hm, i wanted to try with Icaros 2.2.1, but how does hostbridge work there?
There is no hbadd, or hbrun.

[edit]
Hm, now i have installed Icaros 2.2.1, after problems the installer can't cp '.../.linux/Hosteddir/*' i have copyed by hand to the System/Hosted folder on aros.
But the problem with hbadd is exact the same as in Icaros 2.2.2. I don't know, how you get that running, since the commands are the same. In internet i found some posts of you, there is hbridge as command used, but that's from Icaros 2.2.

@towo

The issue is somewhere among Lua executables, libraries and AROS system files. As I said, nothing in hostbridge has changed.
