A: This could be probably fixed by creating a WBStartup directory in the AROS directory.
If you are root and AROS crashes at launch, do "xhost +" before "su && ./aros -m 20". You must give it some memory with -m option.

ps
Thanx Neil and Olivier!

Thanks, but the comment I wrote about creating WBStartup was specific to a problem in the nightlies around the time I wrote it. In practice, a segmentation fault can mean almost anything. Running AROS with GDB can help to narrow down the problem.

I think questions above is really one question:
What is _currently_ needed for Aros to self-compile and what problems still exists ?

Let me add to this:
Where can I find the make executable for aros ?

2Neil: hm, let`s leave it for a while. i think, we can collect all the advices there.

No, they are not! fork() is needed in other places aswell, and should be just one of the problems on the way to self-compiling!

Q: I`ve compiled AROS with gcc4 but found, that compiled AROS-hosted segfaults with -m > 20 and if I compile AROS-native it does not start (black screen)
A: Add -fno-strict-aliasing to scripts/aros-gcc.in
and recompile

(append to a question above)

afaik, to self compile we need:

1-jobs (manager)
2-signaling

regards,

ps: that is what we need for a port o ksh or abc-shell (needed for build =o) )

ps2: other way around would be tubs, but i would prefer the first approach!

So whats the latest with Aros? I think the key to its development is how closely and in what ways it should integrate UAE. UAE is the key. Close integration has to be a must.

@Ball000

I use VMware and DeepBurner. With deepburner I create an ISO image out of the files I need and then mouth the ISO with VMware as a CD-ROM and boot into AROS. The only problem I haven't figured out how to fix is that long file names in Aros will truncate to 8.3 deal. Example.. Arosinstall.info will become Arosin~1.inf.
