New year coming, what would you like to see for AROS in 2010?

I'm just curious what everyone would really like to see happen for aros in 2010... With all the advances that 2009 brought, I for one can't wait to see what aros will look and work like in the later half of 2010.

Myself, I'd really like to see uae integration really finished, with working joystick and sound. Thats pretty
much the top of my list. This would make AROS truly a successor to the amiga line in my view, since it would run most or all of our old amiga software....

I'd like to see smp, more sound and audio applications, 3d apps, firefox ported, hmmm...A good video editing suite for aros would rock... Virtualbox for aros or something very similar would be nice...

Would not right now be a good time for everyone to think about these things, and then try and work together to make 2010 a great year for AROS?

I for one definitely think so.

Steven

To that add printing subsystem and better(faster) fat and wireless drivers for common cards.

My short wish list:

1. A fully supported, commercially available AROS hardware setup.

2. A hardware 3D video driver for at least one family of cards

3. Software to edit .doc/.odt

4. Software to edit .xls/.ods

5. Flash support in OWB

6. Deliver UAE integration with sound and joystick

7. AROS booting from flash drive / pen drive

8. Fix fat.handler to make is fully usable

9. Backport latest kernel architecture to i386 - minimal memory protection

10. Implementation of cgfxvideo.library - overlay support

Interesting topic. My wish list would look something like this (top down):

- UAE Integration with joystick and sound
- better WiFi support (USB & maybe PCMCIA)
- better stability
- improved multitasking
- DOpus bounty finished
- hardware accelerated gfx
- more collaboration, exchange & acceptance between all the Amiga NG flavors

Lots of the same requests, for myself id like to see Zune and Wanderer getting some much needed love, there are some annoying bugs still in both of them that has been there a good while now. The user experience would increase drasticaly if these were fixed and some new features were added.

My wishlist pretty closely mirrors Deadwoods. Good thing about most of the items as well is that they looks quite likely (or at least feasible) to actually happen some time next year (maybe even earlier than later in the year). Apart from that though Id like to see emulators for most of the systems we lack (snes, megadrive, saturn, n64, etc.), might even be able to play ps2 games or at least gamecube at a decent speed with h/w accelaration, and AROS to get ports of the "usual suspects" most alternative systems have (quake2 and 3, descent, duke3d, OpenTTD, wastelands, etc.).
Maybe a decent 3d renderer too. Povray looks pretty powerful, but 3d software with a shell isnt a lot of fun

I will backup 4play, whilst Aros is very usable it needs work on trying to clear out the bugs in the system. New users will come along and not be as patient as us and they are not used to systems crashing.

Right now apart from a fully supported system, this is the priority for me, all the other bits are great but your foundation must be solid.

backing up what other's already have posted here,
esp. "your foundation must be solid",
here's my wishlist:

- system bugfixing (fat.handler, ...)

- full keyboard control (any screen/window/requester/gadget) (Alt-Tab-like screen and window switching, etc.)

- systemwide copy'n'paste (including shell, requester-texts, etc.)

- shell scrollbar

- windows resizable on all four edges/corners

- application iconifying as a standard

- sound support and applications

- flawless developer tools

- no need to reboot machine upon any change in configuration

- the reunion of Amiga flavours and companies: AROS, NatAmi, ELBOX, Hyperion, etc. working together (not against each other)

...and:
steve/clusteruk making good progress!
(
alongside all the others, of course. thanks everyone.
)

I think the thread already nailed the most important parts. And I especially agree with 4Play.

Aros user interface does not feel snappy when you start up a few apps, lockups happens for me often then. Mostly when a SDL game is running and for example OWB is running. I don't know if it's a mis-configuration on my part but the system comes to a crawl and for example grabbing a window and try to move it around the screen can completely freeze Aros/Wanderer.

Absolutely AROS booting from USB/SDHC flash. My goal is to get it booting from a fast SDHC in my brand new eeepc 1005ha.

Next, in order of importance:

2) Drivers for modern radeon and nvidia cards, at least 2D.
3) Drivers for Intel GMA graphics.
4) Wifi support.
5) Flash for OWB.
6) Google Chrome

and last but not least:

7) Java

If we get Java we get thousands of modern applications in a moment! I know it's not easy, but there is who is trying to do it out there: http://openjdk.java.net/projects/haiku-port/

Merry Christmas and Happy new year to all!
