Man! those icons looks ugly there!

I don't think they're that bad. OK, they are not Amiga like, but this is a port of a Xfig (Un*x), they are the same there: http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?t ... Datei:Xfig_screenshot.png

@colani1200
I am just asking yannick if the icons are embedded in the source code or people can peosonalise it... at very least i can try once have some time to draw some new ones :)

Plus i wonder how hard is to implement a svg export filter there...

Yannick, ignore the beauty experts, moaning about the icons. Fantastic port, no seriously wonderful.

Perhaps somebody could give you some new buttons that are as obvious as these so you could update to make it "pretty" too.

This will be tested by me, trust me on that.

You are without a doubt the best software porter in my opinion, you just deliver. Amazing.

@clusteruk

The skills of Yannick as software porter are not on discussion (there are also repeated public praises on my blog): just that i used a bit amifig on my 1200 several years ago and with the time i just forgot how the icons were user unfriendly... i just offered to redo the icons if it is allowed by the way the software is built;

indeed a vector tool was a big missed from AROS software landscape, and if a svg format filter can be added will be an invaluable tool or the future (once a svg datatype and a svg icon datatype might be hopefully added to AROS).

@saimon

It was meant to be light hearted banter.
But, nobody started with, cool port, but ...

@yannick

What file format images should I be able to load into the picture box.

Only one crash so far to do with picture box, got to reproduce to find out how and when etc.

Hi,

@Saimon69
At the time I was using my A1200 I already thought this icons are ugly, you're right.
Now we have the chance to change them!
They are today hardcoded, but this can be reworked at a later step, please fill free to create a replacing set.
Andreas, the author, has now moved to WinFIG http://www.schmidt-web-berlin.de/winfig/ we may use the updated icons from this.

Exporting to SVG might be feasible also, I have to check if there is a exiting tool converting from .fig to .svg.

@Clusteruk
Normally picture box should be able to handle all picture datatypes, I however have to check this.

Yannick

[seems me and yannick posted at the same time, thanks for the answer, looking forward to do some icons for you:) ]

I gave a look around and found the page for Winfig (the actual windows port from the same author)
here

And it points to the xFig documentation
here

from there here are the supported formats:
Quote:

- EPSF (Encapsulated PostScript)
- GIF with transparency
- See also Important Note about GIF
- JPEG (JFIF)
- PCX (PC Paintbrush)
- PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
with alpha transparency blended with xfig's background
- PPM (Portable Pixmap)
- TIFF (Tagged Image File Format)
- XBM (X11 bitmap)
- XPM (X11 pixmap)

but since the user manual is upgraded while amifig is on hold since 2001 am not that sure...

@yannick
Looking for tools to help, i stumbled in fig2vect from sourceforge, that is a command line to convert in several formats including svg and that is BSD licensed...

fig2vect

Hope this will help you.

Thanks Yannick for bringing this one to AROS. I played with it briefly yesterday. No crash but I still have to figure out how to draw properly I never used this program before and it takes a while to find all needed functions. Will try some more soon.

@Yannick

Good stuff as per usual. Ive not had a look yet, but it looks like an interesting bit of software so will get around to it soon.
