This is a demo of Shapeshifter that is now freely available on Aminet.net running through the latest 0.7 version of Janus-UAE. It is running MacOS system 7.5.3 (available from Apple) and has full 24 bit support and audio. Not bad eh, especially if you have Mac roms on file, knew there was a catch. Oh well got mine from a 68040 Mac Performa back in the day.

That is really awesome. So we finally get Word running on Amiga machines!!
![]() I love native apps as much as the next guy, but seeing something like this does make me wonder though, about the ability, through emulation, to plug gaps in AROS's software library. For instance, can something like DOSBox run an acceptable Windows Xp or Linux installation? One would think, the ability to run the latest Windows or Mac version of MS-Word easily enough would be break down a few barriers to AROS adoption. Then if you got really crafty you could utilise something like Coherence, to maintain the AROS experience. Now that MacOSX is able to run my essential Windows apps, I see an Apple in my future, where I would not have otherwise. I would love to see this feature on x86 AROS.

The best DosBox will ever manage is Win95 if I can get DosBox to use DOS 7 then I will test it.
Forget others they are not DOS based. However, Win95 gives you access to Win32 apps which is a huge amount. Steve PS. this is just a technology test and for retro heads in realty.

Wow! the boot at 16 colors is amazingly fast, should try to put it on too, pity all my mac sw is in italy and no way to retrieve a floppy disc... :)
By the way i owe a lot to the shapeshifter (was also a registered user, i paid my own key file) since it allowed me (finally) to do paid gigs for some people that else would not have touched me with a 20-feet pole: sad but true that despite was using programs (like art expression) that have output compatible with mac, people did not care because was NOT using a mac... great box.
awesome video. unbelivable arOS and the nice teaser "more later..." =o) i dont know english street words well, but i think: "who´s your daddy now?" would be ok! ;) i hope see "still alive" on one aros video... i just like that vid. ...and, im not sure, but i think there is files avaiable for "open video toaster", maybe that could be also a nice video catch. im very anxious to have a nice aros box (sadly i had a lpt joypad, as i thought aros would support it before usb, but buy a usb one will be real easy) Regards, ![]()

Dosbox isnt limited to Win95 (Ive in fact posted some pictures here of it running win98) nor do running OSes need to be based on Dos. Easiest way to install other OSes (Dosboxes "normal os" doesnt need to be used) is to use Bochs, then transfer the hardfile for use with dosbox. From there you simply use a combination of the imgmount and boot commands from dosbox prompt.

The point was raised about running XP under DosBox. You cannot run XP under DosBox, Win98 is in the same family as Win95 and so is ME so they may run. Bochs I believe is a Virtual Machine which Dosbox is not.
