BSzili Sorry again, I do not know if it can be useful, but I found that if the game launches with a: Run >Nil: Game, the Frogatto can be run as many times as you want without generating any error output.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Scusa ancora BSzili, non so se può essere utile, ma ho scoperto che se il gioco si lancia con un: Run >Nil: Game, il Frogatto può essere lanciato quante volte si vuole, senza generare alcun errore in uscita.

Uhm, i think a translator problem ? Because not showing an error when output is piped to nil seems very logical to me

But on a more serious note: if indeed the (error)output is causing the hang could it perhaps be that this output is causing the hang of the process/shell itself ?.

I've seen strange things (before) when outputting non-ascii to the shell. If that would be the case you could check that with piping the output to a file and check for wierd values. Just an idea.

I'm not a programmer, I'm just a geek of 58 years old, loves AmigaOS always manage several networked PCs and know a lot about Windows systems. Returning to the problem, I noticed that Frogatto if you start it from a shell with the command Run >Nil: Game, this can be run multiple times without errors out, I noticed that even with Scout processes Frogatto increase each time, without ever having errors in the output. I tried to make a script to launch from Icon to iconx and after two or three times that you Frogatto hangs the system.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I think Run> Nil: Game works, because it will run as a separate task, independent from the shell you started it from. As amiga said the game still won't exit, it just won't hog the shell anymore.

It's a nice workaround. Not a solution, but a good workaround.

Currently I'm working on a version which uses thread.library instead of SDL threads. Maybe it will solve the problem.

Frogatto updated.

[technobabble]
I rewrote threading to use threads.library insted of the buggy SDL_threads. Actually I did it a couple of months ago, but I just figured it out why it didn't work. The C++ constructors are called before the main() function, which opened thread.library. I fixed this by with a thin wrapper around the 1st mutex creation, which now opens thread.library too.[/technobabble]

This means that the game executable no longer hangs on exit. I also updated the amigalocale -> unix locale conversion. It now uses the preferred languages, and uses country code as a fallback. I made an icon too. Please report if there are any regressions.

I tried this today, and it's not only a cute, fun game that reminds me of Yoshi, it also worked without any problems :D
