Thanks! I got it.

I'm finally figuring this thing out. I kept trying it on a 4 second video and I'm realizing that is what I'm doing wrong. It works fine. When someone said wait 5 seconds... they really meant wait 30 seconds. ;) I was just being impatient with it. I streamed the Germany Amiga thing just fine.

What is the reason of the poor quality of the picture of a YouTube-video compared to the same video with the same resolution played with Firefox under WinXP? Is it because of mplayer?
How can the picture-quality be improved? I think this is important in terms of the competition with other OSs.

BTW, i'm very lucky with Youtube Monitor giving us the possibility to stream YT-videos easily! Thank's a lot, Larious!

@AlTea

you know that youtube streams different quality videos,sometime can be selected from a drop down in the bottom, but to make it via URL try adding &fmt=18 or &fmt=35 to get a better quality video, not sure on how this will reflect on the app though

like to add some suggestions:

1) can you make the position of mplayer selectable, as parameter so that people does not need to move it in c:?

2) at very least a GUI even made in amilua for config might be cute

I made some tests with THIS video. It is available on YouTube in only one resolution. Nevertheless i tried to use "&fmt=18" and "&fmt=35" as ending of the URL - without any difference.

1) Downloaded it with YTMON.
2) Downloaded it with the Firefox-add-on "1-Click YouTube Video Downloader".
3) Compared the two files: Same size (7.990 KB).
4) Played them with
a) MPlayer for AROS
b) MPlayer for WinXP
c) Winamp
d) Adobe Media Player
same results in poor quality of the picture.

I don't know why, played from the YouTube-site (WinXP + Firefox) it has a much better quality.

@ clusteruk: I used v0.06 and it works fine.

@ Saimon69: I have not put mplayer in C: but put ytmon in mplayer-drawer.

ytmon only supports the basic format. I started looking at higher formats but due to my limited ADSL I was not confident that I got it working correctly so held off on publishing it.

You don't need mplayer in C: Actually, my install notes suggest you put ytmon into the same directory as mplayer.

I was not intending on customising this much more (other than maybe higher quality video) as it really is just a work around until OWB is enhanced with HTML5. Once that happens I am sure ytmon will be redundant.

@Larious

YTMon may become redundant with HTML5 but we will always be grateful for it, and that will not be for a while so HD version would be cool

Look out for ytmon v0.07 that I just uploaded to AROS repo. It now allows for 420p and 720p. One thing, some clips do not have higher res formats and if you choose formats which do not exist, ytmon plays nothing (idle in mplayer). Would love it to fall back to low res format but I think that will take some research to get around.

Enjoy :)
