VESA modes are set up by the BIOS, so AROS can't detect the monitor in that case. However, you could try using new VESA settings by editing the GRUB options: if your monitor's native resolution is 1600x1200 for example, try VESA=1600x1200@60 or VESA=1600x1200x16@60.

The USB bug would probably be difficult to solve unless a developer has access to similar hardware to test on. Have you tried changing USB-related BIOS settings?
