I've been thinking about this for some time, and I guess it's time to ask what others think about it. I'm talking about porting UADE to AROS. For those who are not familiar with it, check out this: read this.
Sure we can use DeliTracker and/or EaglePlayer in Janus, but wouldn't a native Zune based player be nice?

So what do you think? We need it, don't need it, waste of time, etc?

Go for it!

One of the thing I loved most on my Amigas was having them playing diferent mods in the backgorund while I worked (Eagleplayer mainly but also HippoPlayer)...

@BSzili

I compiled an AROS version of UADE just after I ported it to AmigaOS 4.x. But the AROS version refused to work for some reason. Might have been because of differences in PIPE: device (tried both PIPEFS: and XPIPE:) or file descriptor i/o implementation.

You can find the source code here (don't remember if it includes any AROS changes):

Thanks, I'll try it out. I think I'll ditch the pipe-based IPC, and link it statically to the player. Of course a shared library would be the best, so other players can use it too

Hi BSzili,

dunno how far you got with this already (and if its still in the pipeline ).

Just wanted to let you know (just in case) that a new package for 0S4 (inc source) has been uploaded a couple of days ago. Maybe it can give some inspiration

regards,

To answer yor question.. It would be great to have that ability in native aros.
I have loads of old modules on old cd´s and finding a player can quite ofthen be a drag. Even better if it could convert to MP3 as well.

Yeah, it's still in the pipeline. I've spent a few futile days on figuring out why PIPEFS: wouldn't cooperate. I can use it to pipe data with manually created file in the shell, but UADE simply won't create/find them.
Since completely replacing the IPC would be a tremendous task, I'm thinking about replacing this pipe stuff with message ports. UADE's messages are about 5k at most, so they should fit nicely. This is going to be my next project, after I finished bugfixing Quake2.

I would also love to be able to listen to old mods again. What memories! :D
