ABIv0 x86_64 is essentially unmaintained. Use ABIv1 or i386.

EDIT: after a full reboot, I have to amend point 2). It stops at another stage of compiling:

What Linux distro are you running?

Ok, probably it'd better state clearly what I'd like to accomplish.

I have a x86_64 distro (latest Lubuntu, basically a stripped down Ubuntu).

I've been compiling for AROS from another Lubuntu x86 inside VirtualBox. I'd like to ditch this virtual machine and work on the host machine.

It's perfectly ok for me to work with ABIv0 x86, if only I can get to compile x86 software.

I'm just slightly confused on how to obtain an AROS x86 development environment on a x86_64 host

@jman

You're on the right track compiling with --target=linux-i386. Did you delete your build tree after your attempt to build with no specific target (which means --target=linux-x86_64 in your case)? Perhaps there is some 64-bit code left over in the tree that causes your last error.

Gentlemen, I've finally did it.

I've downloaded and recompiled from scratch nightly build 20121001 and it worked compilation of target=linux-i386.

There's a helluva dependencies to be satisfied before getting to the end:

g++
libpng12-dev
gcc-multilib
libx11-dev
ia32-libs
libgl1-mesa-dev
g++-multilib
libX11-dev:i386

These are packages names for Ubuntu flavours. The last one was especially tricky but google was my friend.

Now the compilation completes successfully and now I can crosscompile for x86 from my x86_64 distro.

People, don't forget to add "-m32" to the CFLAGS

Neil, thank you very much

Well my Ubuntu died again, I knew it wasn't far away from failing as I couldn't empty the darn trash can. SVN choked before ext3 again.

Installed Fedora 17 again and it seems to cope pretty well with Aros build system, thanks again! I'll expect some minor setbacks but I think this time it will work.

GCC4.7 didn't like linkers melf_i386 argument, I used -m32 instead but perhaps it can be removed completly.

Also when linking bootstrap GCC complained it can't find -lc

I might have some mixups with the correct libgcc or something, but I added -nostdlib in arch/all-pc/bootstrap/mmakefile.src and removed %llu and %lld support from __vcformat (clib) as it started to choke there.

Edit: With those modifications it builded something...
Edit: And it booted on my Aros box and installed and ran from the installation

Ext3 didn't complain anything but SVN threw some internal errors at the console, couldn't diff it against the base nor do a cleanup, not to mention any updates.
