another alternative for Pi - ArchLinux - very fast.
have not tried it yet.

anyway you should try Slitaz (x86)
packages in stable release bit outdated but it's perfect for hosting aros - sound and opengl work out of box.

also good for mame, uae etc

Slitaz is very interesting.. I think i will switch with r4 to it.

EDIT: Well raspian will sport Wayland.. and XWayland is a bit better on Pi too.

For the protocol:
11 have been sold in the last offer. Money will be collected and reused(minus price for the cards) for ARM related bounties.

Tomorrow I will release a free image under "old versions".

Public version will be uploaded in a few hours.

It is basically beta 1 (where lx didn't worked anyway). LX is kept for supporters.
Public versions will stay behind at least two versions. Next beta is planed for next weekend (it will than match 3.5 for x86 except for Applications.. I have to keep an eye on what works on PPC too.

I describe on my Website how you can become a supporter. Supporter of AROS.

Starting from October I will focus on ARM for the Ares line, and x86 for IndieGO (no it is not cancelled, i had to hire people for web/server programming, earn money by myself to pay them and so on) -> all this will be merged together and parts will be find a way into IcAROS and AspireOS too.. at least from my side ; )

As promised you can grab it from www.aeros-os.org

It is based on beta 1 from a few weeks ago. The "Supporter"-Version comes with "lx"-command.

In order to give you still access to Linux stuff the following is also supported in the free Version:

- tint2 Taskbar allows accessing of Linux stuff (right click on it)
- Linux Windows are "hovering" above Wanderer. Just like Widgets on OS X.

Remember to try the "mouse wheel" feature on Window-title-bars. Very handy and makes window movement much faster.

From now on the public release will be 2 versions behind to the "supporter Version".

I hope that I can add a ARM based AresOne next week to www.ares-shop.de

Click to see original Image in a new windowClick to see original Image in a new window

Next weekend I will upload beta3 which will than match AEROS for x86 r3.5 except for applications. I take care about what is also possible on PPC Linux. Sadly.. much less than on ARM.

The Screenshot shows r3.5 for x86 . Next Raspberry Pi image will look like it except Icon size which is already smaller by default. (Last native AROS Broadway introduced changeable Icon-sizes 48x48, 64x64 and 128x128 as shown on the screenshot)

Im about to start new job and move house, so quite busy.
Pi packed already in boxes.

Since Im going to start earning some money soon, I will be able to support Aros financial way.

Aros ppc native + MOS/AOS wrapper would be cool, I think I mentioned it already.

Then Aros wrapper for Morphos but that's topic for morphzone forum

: )

Beta 3 is coming... this time it should be more fun to use.
It was planned to be at least a rc1 but i struggled somewhere between a mountlist problem and a barbecue with beer ; )

New in the beta 3 are:
Some new app with Icons and icons for already installed apps as follows:
Gimp 2.8 (yes i used it to make some icon on the pi... ; ) )
Audaciuos (Winamp like audio player)
LibreOffice
Dillo (brower which starts instantly and is ok for Amiga releated websites)
Netsurf (better compatibility and somewhere between Dillo and Midori in terms of performance)
Midori
VLC (don't expect wonders! Remember to buy codecs from the raspberry guys on raspberry.org)
DOSBOX (damn feels like on ATOM systems ; ) )
E-UAE (yes but no AROS68k yet - will follow with next version together with PUAE)
Leafpad (Text Editor, lightweight)
SCUMMVM + Beneath a stell sky + Flight of the Amazon queen
TUXPaint - nice painting app for kids with stamps and nice effects
and more...

Remember you can access everything(and more) alternatively with a right click on the black task bar.

I found some applications to be very responsive and some which start instantly, even on a really slow sd-card. If you know alternatives to some apps feel free to tell me those ; )

All in all AEROS for Pi (even if based on debian) is already quite leightweight.
Debian + AROS consume in total 68MB of RAM whereas 32MB of it are "reserved for AROS" which again shows 28MB free of 32MB which means in total AEROS need 40MB RAM ; ) Not bad.

Slitax is an good alternative to debian. The whole Linux part could fit in 30MB. This means everything being loaded to RAM.

To make it a bit user-friendly you can now access raspi-config via icon.
With this tool you can expand the partition to the whole free space on your sd-card. raspi-config

Linux windows have now the close icon on the left side as AROS apps.
