I have found some hints to install/compile openra for icAROS 1.5.2 but I failed. I have read the Readme-File and found that I need sdl 1.2.8 and sdl-mixer 1.2.6.

I found the sdl-mixer source here in the aros archive but I faild with sdl 1.2.8.

I also tried to execute make without installing sdl or sdl-mixer but I get messages.

The messages are in the (hopefully) attached screenshot-file.

The SDL libraries are part of "contrib" and should be available in distros like Icaros.

But your screenshot looks like you have a generic problem with libs. Do you have the directory sys:Development/lib?

Edit:
Do you have the "Development" assign? I.e. entering
cd development:
in a Shell should bring you to the sys:Development directory.

Mazze is on the right track

I suspect you've installed icaros with default settings, and afaik that does not install the develoment. So, it's missing and therefor does not contain the development assign as well as the required files Mazze is talking about.

Therefor it cannot find the required (development library) files and thus presents you with the error messages.

Try re-installing the development files from your icaros cd/dvd or in case that gives problems, do a complete re-install of icaros (but with the development files section checked this time ).

Please also notice that Icaros Desktop LIGHT does NOT include anything a developer would need. In order to get AROS development toolchain, Icaros Desktop Live!, properly installed, is required.

Thank you, guys. I have the assign Developement but in Development:lib are no files.

It is not too bad to reinstall icAROS, because it is so complete that I have just installed odamex with freedoom. That was not much work.

I will reinstall icAROS next days, so I can show RedAlert on the Amiga Meeting in Bad Bramstedt/ Germany.

Cheers

Bren Mcguire

Alright, I have reinstalled icAROS with Development option. Now I got unknowns symbols.

I had read the point 5.2 and got the source on my Linux Host and had copied it to, but I do not know where I should copy the content of Googles openredalert-read-only source code.

Here is the Screenshot:

I am out of ideas at the moment and I failed with the installation so I had created an installation protocoll. I hope you can help me. Here it is:

Read the URL http://arosworld.org/news.php?readmore=274

Download Aros Open Red Alert from:

http://www.portacall.org//downloads/OpenRedAlert.lha

Extract this file to AROS:MyWorkspace/Downloads/ .
So a new directory was there called openredalert.

Download Original Sources from:

http://code.google.com/p/openredalert ... -r407-src.tar.gz&can=2&q=

Extract this archive to AROS:MyWorkspace/Downloads/openredalert/.
For example there is a new directory called AROS:MyWorkspace/Downloads/openredalert/data/ .

Then I have mounted an original RedAlert CD and copied MAIN.MIX from the root CD directory to AROS:MyWorkspace/Downloads/openredalert/data/mix/ .
Then I had copied related to the root CD Directory the file INSTALL/REDALERT.MIX to AROS:MyWorkspace/Downloads/openredalert/data/mix/ .

Then I compile successfully with the command make. In the directory AROS:MyWorkspace/Downloads/openredalert/ is the file Makefile.

Then I did not succeed with the command make install with the error mkdir needs an operand.
Then I checked the Makefile and the install section which uses unset variales. Some are set. Here comes the overview:

The install section:

#############
install:
mkdir -p $(DESTDIR)$(BINDIR)
install -m 755 ${DEST}/$(TARGET) $(DESTDIR)$(BINDIR)/$(TARGET)
# create links ...

The variables:

DESTDIR unset
BINDIR unset
DEST=./obj
TARGET=openredalert

I assume I need to do make install because I could not run the binary AROS:MyWorkspace/Downloads/openredalert/obj/openredalert .
I got the error 'Unable to open freecnc.ini'

Change directory to AROS:MyWorkspace/Downloads/openredalert/data/settings and execute the following command:

chmod 666 freecnc.ini

Retrying to execute openredalert with the same error message.

I copied also the created binary openredalert from the directory obj/ to / but still same error.

File freecnc.ini.original is just a safety backup i created myself from freecnc.ini, before tampering with settings.

And a sanity picture to show it does something:

PS: compiling the sources is not neccessary (well, at least not for my setup) as serk provided a working exe. He just forgot some inifiles and proper setup requires some erm .. odd... drawer-scheme . The port itself is also a bit shaky at times (but perhaps that is in original OpenRA as well, i dunno).

I finally got it running, too. Did not compile anything, that directory map did the trick. And also had to double the stack. Thanks magorium
