@mazze

You inspired me to do a little internet search of my own. I wrote a BASIC word search game for the C-64 about the same time. But not at the same level of a shooting game. It was so long ago, I am surprised to find it

I haven't done much coding since, mostly a few fixes while porting

The VIC-20 was a great machine; I still fire mine up every so often. Yes, any custom graphics had to be mapped to the character set. I remember creating a 'hi-res' screen by 'printing' out the re-mapped characters in a matrix across the display and then, to plot a pixel, you had to convert its x & y coordinates to the specific bit in the particular line of the appropriate character... Indeed, "those were the days"!

That was *exactly* the same technique I used on the Commodore 16 for my poor game programming efforts in basic 3.5. I remember having also created a very simple character redefinition utility which basically allowed to draw or clear pixels in the bitmap graphic page, after copying the character set data to the first memory locations, and then saved the modified character set as binary file. I could then save, load and move these data using C16's integrated monitor program. Yes, those were the days, but... thank's God they're gone!

Source code is public. It would be nice if someone adds mobile/touch support and sends it back to me.
