Thanks for the guide!

This morning I became a month subscriber, as Pascal knows. :) So far, I've installed the client on my MacBook and in AROS and, guess what??? It works!! Not that I had any reason to suspect it wouldn't. That didn't take away from my excitement.

I'm running AROS in VirtualBox on a MacBook Pro. Ok, so getting samba shares working between Mac OS an AROS is not something I want to mess with. I'm a little spoiled with guest additions/tools and things like shared folders through the vm itself. ;)

But AmiCloud is even better for what I'm doing. For the past three weeks, and likely sometime to come, I'm exploring various aspects of AROS and Amigas and the retro scene that I've mostly missed until now. If I come across something I want to have in AROS, I can upload it to AmiCloud from anywhere and any device.

You know, I hate when people get all silly and excited about the whole "cloud" thing. Like sharing data or accessing services on someone else's computer located somewhere else is somehow new or something. But dang it, this is cool! :D

I have a couple of suggestions that I hope you'll find helpful:

I found the first page of the guide to be extremely informative and helpful. It answered a lot of questions that I had. I would recommend improving the web page for AmiCloud, providing more details about the service than the page currently provides. I wouldn't copy the entire first page. ;) But high level bullets would be great. Especially details about the various account options (AEROS customer, buying individual clients, or subscribing). That is the kind of information I'd want to see when initially evaluating and considering using AmiCloud.

The registration process is not intuitive and the guide doesn't help. The Login button is on the left with the Register button in the middle. If I click Register first, it complains because I haven't put in a username and password. Once I do and click Register, it asks me to put in a password (again) for my new account. Obviously I made it through it, but I recommend making it more obvious and intuitive to the user how to proceed through the registration.

This carries on a little through the activation process. Especially since I've never used any of your services, a brand new customer, the various payment methods aren't clear. At first I though I had to purchase AmiCoins to use for AmiCloud. Then I came across two different pages of the website where a subscription could be purchased. One page used PayPal and the other used a credit card. I think people using the website would have a better experience if payments and purchases were made on a dedicated page that has the various options described, and is used for all payments/purchases.

Hopefully that helps. I've only been using AmiCloud for a hour or so. But so far I'm loving it! I'm very interested in helping in any way I can, from giving suggestions to beta testing to...

[I'm not a website developer or a web programmer, so I can't be much help there. And It'll be a while before I can help with any coding, if any is even needed. But if you think of anything, let's chat to see if I can help.]

Thanks again,

Jon

The guide says that indieGO! is pre-installed on Icaros Desktop. If I installed 2.1.2 and didn't move indieGO!, where would I find it?

It is under extras:filesystem but it is one version behind.

(you can just replace the files with the latest AROS
archive from www.amicloud.de)

I will take your suggestions and will try to rebuild the whole presentation : )

Fabio is working now on a messaging client called indieChat.
We will first release a basic messenger and than include it into AmiCloud.
Well and the AmiCloud API will be included also in the messenger..

You can grab it for now from here:

I will chnage the official download archives tomorrow.

Click to see original Image in a new window

Due to the recent changes on what request are accepted by the server, Fabio had to rewrite large portions of the AmiCloud client.

We have updated AmiCloud and the indieGO! Appstore for all systems.

Changelog for AmiCloud 1.2 (build 0313):
- Fixed voucher code support
- Fixed registration process

Grab it from www.amicloud.de

Changelog for indieGO! Appstore 1.1
- Works again (old binary cant't connect anymore due to changed request style)
-New fplatform filter screen, for now only single filters because server does not support yet multiple platform filters. The new platform filter has been applied to the search screen as well. Long application descriptions now will scroll to the left. When a requester appears the background is now grayed out to improve GUI visibility.
-Download Manager and AppStore opening Window -> Both Back arrows should point Left, not right as per the Catalogue Browser which is correct. Manage Settings -> Interface Resolution... EFFETCTS should be EFFECTS. AppStore -> Current Filter window -> AmigaOS 4 missing from options. Some work on bug reports.
-Applied the new requesters to: <Option not yet available>.
-Added error check against the following failures: cache folder cleanup, image cache folder cleanup
-Added error check against the following failures: empty passwords, registration process (applied new requesters), change log can be accessed from the "Your Profile" screen.
-Added support for text in grid interfaces, this allows to show the key binded to the HOME function among other future uses.
-Applied new wordwrap rouitnes to avoid crashes on low screen resolutions.

Grab it from www.indiego-gaming.com or update your console to OS Version 1.8.1 which includes both.

New in indieGO!-OS 1.8.1 (since 1.7.0)
- replaced XBMC with Kodi
- updated RetroArch
- AmiCloud 1.2
- Appstore 1.1
- Separated Amiga500 / 1200 / and CD32 entries in Emulation Station
- Updated FS-UAE based on mainline version utilizing an OpenGL Wrapper (no more a custom openGL ES build)
- Cleaned some stuff in AEROS for indieGO!
