Hi,

Together with Olaf we decided to introduct a few bounties to get more development into AROS 68k. Here is the first proposed one:

======================================

Workbook is AROS 68k minimalisting desktop. Today its usability is quite
limited. This bounty aims at extending the available functions to become a
replacement of Workbench as found in AmigaOS 3.1

Bounty will be completed when these functionalites are available in Workbook:

* Support standard .info files
* Manually position & snapshot icons and windows
* Drag & drop icons to copy/move
* Make new directories
* Delete files & directories
* Rename files & directories
* View/edit file information/tooltypes
* Leave out/put away
* Make Show All Files/Show Only Icons work as per description

This functionality needs to be available in ROM version of Workbook, that is
booting a disk only containing LoadWB command will allow usage of Workbook with
these functionalities.

Additionaly the following functionalities can be added at the descrection of the developer:

* Support for ToolMenu
* List-view mode (view + manage files as in icon mode)

These functionalities are not required to mark bounty as completed.

======================================

If you have suggestions on additional functionalities that could be include in that bounty, please let us know.

The last time I tried Workbook (with a recent nightly IIRC), I also found that icons weren't shown until I selected "show all files", and that the "show all files" and "show only icons" menu items ended up both ticked at the same time.

I could not find any infos about Workbook on aminet, I would support a minimalistic Workbench if it:

1. is programmed in C (C++ will be accepted)
2. supports more than just one platform

@GreenNight:
Now you'll have to support Workbook:

1. Workbook is programmed in C;
2. you can run it on all platforms AROS runs on so far: it sits in the System drawer...

Why not use Scalos?

Although mazze did a splendid job sofar, scalos (on aros) is a bit buggy and unfortunately isn't 100% completed yet.

Thereby the topic says it all ?

workbook is an alternative for the classic workbench, and quite some length was put into it to make it as small as possible so that it could run from a floppy -> try that with scalos

as Magorium wrote... we discussed it on eab. People do not like heavy replacements like Magellan or Scalos but would use a lightweight replacement with functionality on 3.1. level. Because of that the idea to bring Workbook on a useable level to become a real alternative.

I think this bounty is good, even though I would rather like to see further development on the AROS-Installer or better an AROS-Installer that can use the traditional install scripts from AOS3 software.

If I add all my wishes it would be a copy of the wanderer enhancement bounty.

Also if we add all features to it wouldn't it become just a copy of wanderer?
It grows in size and adds feature like listing which may not be faster than wanderer anyway.

I just ask..

@phoenixkonsole

That's why the bounty aims for a minimalistic solution.
