nfs client?

Hello everybody,
After trying to get an amithlon box to work and it took too much time (my familys opinion) i now came to test aros (icarps light cd) and i liked it from the beginning.

Network is still not working but i hope i will bring it to work.

The only thing i missed was the nfs client to access my nas.

Is an nfs client included in the 'big' icaros live dvd or can i anyhow use the chnfsc from amitcp with aros?

Thanks in advance!

Hi slartibartfass,
Welcome to AROS - really glad you are enjoying it!

In terms of networking, a few more details would be helpful, such as the machine and its chipset. Unfortunatel AROS just supports a sub-set of all the abailable chipsets; a list of those that work is given here. If your current chipset is not there, supported PCI-e cards (for desktops) or usb wireless adapters (for laptops) are quite cheap from e.g. amazon.

You can set up a route to your nas drive through the use of the 'local host entries' tab in networks prefs, although I undertstand there has been an issue with the latest version of the protocol. Have a look through the thread here.

Cheers,
Nigel.

Hi Nigel,

Thank you for your reply!

Network is working now. The onboard NIC is not supported. So I put in an RTL8139 card and picked the ...8139.device unit 0 an it was.

I got to my NAS via the mount shares tab in network prefs, but it is samba only - not NFS :(.

Still looking for nfs client.

Thanks!

I seem to recall https://github.com/sahlberg/libnfs was ported to AROS by its author.

I have a NAS Server configured. I gave the NAS Server a Static IP in my NAS Server Prefs. then I added the NAS Server IP Adress and the NAS Server Name to "Local Host Entries" in Network Prefs!

Then you have to define "mounted Shares"

Hostname = Your NAS Server Hostname

Domain Workgroup

Share Name = Your Folder Name

Username = Your NAS Login Name

Password = Your NAS Password

Thank you Kalamatee!

Seems to be what I was looking for!

I dont know at the moment how to use these files (Makefile.AROS, aros_compat.c, aros_compat.h)
I will try to find out when I have some time.

Perhaps someone can post here a "howto for newbies".

Thanks + Greets

I think you will need to build it yourself using the makefile you mentioned - there should be instructions in the readme.

It doesn't have an actual filesystem handler/device but provides commands that should let you access the nfs shares at least.

any news here? do we have a nfs-client?

archives.aros-exec.org gives no results when searching for "nfs".

aminet.net has a couple of things:
http://aminet.net/search?query=nfs

there's a "nfs-handler.lha" there, for Amiga-m68k, written by s franke bebbosoft de - does anybody know this guy? herr franke, sind sie hier? this should be easily portable to AROS, but sources are not included.

then there's "nfsd_source.lha" there, apparently a nfs-server's sources. seems to be written for SAS-C compiler. this would give us at least a server to which other computers could connect to. or maybe this could be used as a base for developing a client?

Why don't we simply send an email to him, asking for a i386 AROS port?
