Hi!
I have followed AROS project for years, it's an impressive work, congratulations to the team! I'm an Amiga user from 90's, on those years I was interested in programming, now I work as developer, and I spend my spare time with some classic Amiga and Morphos projects. Lately AROS 68k and AROS for rpi called my attention, specially rpi port, but it seems that there aren't any update in months. I don't have too much expericence with usb or OS development, only some basic concepts, but I think that it could be interesting and make the usb working on rpi.

Good to hear you want to make usb working :)

Raspberry Pi and its clones are in my opinion underrated niche. We should pay more attention to it. Amiga of 90s and nowadays RPi has some similarities. It amused us to go beyond hardware limitations of Amiga 500 or A1200 and doing on our computers things provided for professional machines.
Finally, we have only the Amiga-like OS, but we use it on the hardware, much better supported by other systems. Meanwhile, there are mini-motherboards allowing almost unlimited self-expansion, as once Amiga of 90s. Some of them cost less than dinner at a restaurant.
Let's give a chance to the Raspberry Pi and its clones ... :)

Sorry for my English. I wrote it because I am happy at the thought of to-use USB but even more so be glad, if the programmers who create anything for AROS took into account the existence of the port of our system for ARM processors. I am convinced that the greater the amount of existing ARM software would increase the attractiveness of our niche system in the eyes of Raspberry Pi enthusiasts and developers.

I think rpi and vampire are the best options for a future "best (supported) hardware" for aros.

But its a wild guess.

Hi balrogsoft - welcome to the AROS work, I hope you have fun here!

Hi tomek coolcat2012, I agree having native AROS on rPi would be a real game changer and a distribution for the vampire would be great for getting the 68k enthusiasts to join the party, but I think as well as these a strong x86 version is vital for 'power' uses.

Cheers,
Nigel.

Hi Nigel,
Infact the vampire standalone is making doubts on the apollo team about specs.
(I think it should start with low price and after go for high end, though)
The reason for vampire and rpi be the best options are:
1-price
2-limited drivers needed
3-and in the vampire land, backward compatibility
i can be completelly wrong :)

Vampire could be interesting if standalone computer. But this is a turbo card for classic Amiga, computer with own OS and a lot of software.
How few AROS programmers would support that platform? By porting their few programs from x86 AROS to AmigaOS 3.x?
Even today, more programs is created for the 68k platform than x86.
150EUR > 35$ and there are Pi's for 10$ too.
How many people not having Amiga will buy Vampire + 25 years old computer to start new adventure? How many pieces will be produced?

Pi is a platform for creative people. And they produced probably a milion.

I have nothing against the development of AROS 68k but we should have a more ambitious goal. Raspberry Pi and its clones. Operating System and Software for ARM processors. According to me, every program for AROS should be compiled in two versions. x86 and ARM. The rest does not matter.

I agree that rpi port could be very interesting, this month rpi sales reached 10M, this is a lot of potential users. My experience with operative system development is very limited, first step is compile Aros for rpi sucessfully on my computer and start reading documentation about rpi usb.
