Finally pulled my thumb out recently and started making a very retro focused AROS setup. The cool thing is (in my opinion) I never set out to make an AROS setup, I just wanted something easy and quick, with reasonable requirements.
AROS just happened to be, in my opinion, a great option here.
With RunInDOSBox, DopusMag, a handful of native or emulated gfx and sound apps and a few bits of dos software I've suggenly got a very, very nice little ROM editting environment, all easy to use and more conventiant than ever. And this is just scratching the surface.
Im a bit of a realist, and will often be quick to point out some shortcoming of something, even if Im a fan, but I can honestly say, with a bit of work I've got an AROS setup that has made me more content for this sort of "work" than any experience with it (granted, just tinkering, but still many hours invested) before now.
A single core and 32 bit ram limits just haven't been an issue.

p.s. Amiga/Mac/Whatever emulated apps are easily accesible as well, I just focused on DOS 'cos it has lots of nice ROM editing tools that I'm currently loving being friendlier to use in tandem and faster than before.

Beezle: Hallo old friend :)

I also get creative using AROS. It is something about AmigaOS that get that out of me. What been a little anoying at times is that lot's of our programs are buggy and not well tested and developed. With the simple understandable OS structure it is very nice to download roms for emulators, unpack, copy files to wherever you want without all the protection bullshit in Linux.

Hiya. ltns :)

And yeah, exactly.
Sometimes you just dont need 20gigabytes of OS getting in the way of editting super mario bros., you just want to work on the job
