Bochs for AROS
Guest_
I finally got around to redoing bochs for AROS. This program has bought me terrible luck in the past (this is the 4th time Ive ported it), so hopefully nothing bad happens this time. Unlike my previous attempts though its based on the very latest version (I think), which is both good and bad. Good as its upto date, bad because it seems to be getting slower with each subsequent release (and was never particularly fast in the 1st place). Anyway, its quite a complex beast, so I was hoping there might be some interest in people testing it for me. Bare in mind it will require a bit of effort on the part of those willing to help me out, dont expect Dosbox like simplicity. It appears pretty stable so far, but Ive only tested Windows and Debian3.0 (the only 2 harddrive images I had), and even then not thoroughly, but so far so good. It's only farily beta-ish at the moment and I know there's work to be done. I know there was a little bit of interest in it in the past, so if youre one of those people let me know if you're interested in helping me. Thanks.

Bochs is a complex beast with many options/configurations. I was hoping to get help with a few people trying different Bochs configs and setting with different OSes and so on. It supports between 1 and 4 cpu cores, 3dnow, mmx,sse,sse2, etc. (all or none + in between), floppy drives, harddrives, cdroms (both images and physical), various ram settings, serial/parallel ports, pci slot emulation, 32 and 64 bit cpu emulation and so on and so forth. Basically you "build your own" machine that you want it to emulate. This is why I want a little help. I could go on testing it for months if it was just me,.. so many options and hard to bug test them all by myself. As the screenshot shows, its very late (or possible early, after a while its hard to tell) here, so I'll wait until tomorrow before I start sending it out to volunteers/victims :) For now, I just need sleep :)

One tip from me (learned it from Broadway)
release a alpha and you will get feedback more frequently.
But i would like to test it also as closed WIP.

This will be a great way to use some mainstream apps without leaving Aros. Great project.

+1

This way my old Win95-CD could be used once again.
