IntelGMA not working with ASUS EeePC 1001p netbook

I have been trying for a while now to get the intel video driver working on my netbook without much luck.

My netbook is a Atom n450 based system and windows reports the graphics adapter as a "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 3150".

I have tried using the driver contained in the current Broadway 0.0.4 and a resent nightly AROS build from last weekend both give me a display if I use the forcemga option but lockup shortly afterwards.

Broadway locks up before it finishes loading shortly after it displays the clock on the workbench screen, but the nightly from last week works for a little longer before locking up
AROS seems to finish loading but as soon as you try to open a drive on the workbench screen by double clicking on it AROS locks up.

Any advice on getting the driver working on my hardware would be helpful.

I had this problem with my asus eeepc 900 and solved by not using the native at the boot..

my grub
--------
menuentry "IntelGMA" {
multiboot /boot/aros-pc-i386.gz gfx=IntelGMA lib=drivers:intelG45.hidd ATA=32bit floppy=disabled enableusb forcegma
}

did you do clean format/installation?

crashes if you have mixed system files between icaros/nighty/ArosAspire distro

try the grub like mine and see if that helps.

Sorry, I said I'd look at this problem, but I've been very busy with other things in the last week. You sent me the details of the second graphics PCI device, but I actually need to see the first one (with ProductID = 0xa011). I presume you get no lock-ups in VESA mode.

Hi, thanks for the help I am running from a USB stick and I have been ticking the format partition box when using the AROS installer so I should not have any old files leftover from previous attempts to get the driver working.

My grub config for the Intel driver is as follows:

menuentry "AROS (intel graphics)" {
multiboot /boot/aros-pc-i386.gz gfx=IntelGMA lib=DRIVERS:intelG45.hidd forcegma ATA=nodma floppy=disabled enableusb
module /boot/aros-kernel-pc-i386.gz
module /boot/aros-usb-pc-i386.gz
}

Any other suggestions about things to try would be very welcome.

No problem I was just trying make sure it was not user error before hassling you further.

Yes VESA mode works without problems with everything I have tried with it so far working without problems.

A new version of the driver for you to test is available at http://aros.sourceforge.net/downloads/intelG45.hidd

You need to copy it to DEVS:Drivers/

Thanks that seems to work nicely.

As I am at work at the moment I have not had a lot of time to test it but it boots fine with your updated driver and I can now select a 16-bit 1024x600 screen mode without any problems

I will do some more testing after work to make sure its stable, but so far everything is looking good.

Thanks again for your time and all your hard work.

@ncafferkey

Well I did quite a bit of testing last night and your test driver would seem to work fine on my hardware.

The only small issue is that I am only being offered 640x480 and 1024x600 modes and not 800x600, but as the native resolution of the screen is 1024x600 its not the end of the world.

Great! Thanks for the report. Did you try true colour modes as well as high colour ones?

Yes I have tested both 16-bit and 24-bit screen depths at both 640x480 and 1024x600 screen resolutions.

The main thing I have not tried is changing between modes without rebooting as I cant figure out how to close the application launcher that site in the bottom right corner under the Broadway AROS distro.
