Hi all,

Just stumbled across an idea that might be useful for AROS; a list of easy development tasks.

Inspiration was from EasyTasks list on Haiku wiki:
http://dev.haiku-os.org/wiki/EasyTasks

Think it would be a great idea for AROS, would give achievable targets for new developers, and should help expand from our current number of contributors.

What tasks would be on this list for AROS? How about adding ARexx/Regina syntax highlighting to Murks!IDE (I don't know if it has it already, it's just a suggestion).

Please post your ideas for easy development tasks.

One of the things I'd like to see, and I have no idea if this is easy or not, would be screen size promotion. By this I mean, if you select an old screen size, such as 320x200, I'd like to see it fill the screen instead of being pushed into the top left corner. It's been a while since I played with AROS, so I don't know if this ever got corrected or not.

I wouldn't mind tackling such a project, but I got no clue where to start...

Ed.

An installer option to create a partition with a recycle bin. I've heard it's possible for Sfs to have recycle bins. If so, it would be nice to have the option on the Aros installer.

Automatic snapshot option. For those of us who forget to snapshot our drawers when we move or resize them.

Shell snapshot option. Or someway to set the size and position of where the shell opens, when it is opened from the system menu.

If you resize a window, a refresh functionality should also called (like in MorphOS).

(e-)edid.hidd for parsing display device information and applying patches for known broken edid info's. Intel has released some edid sources.

Our gfx drivers could then use the information gathered from the hidd and all of them would be "updated" when new versions arise also this could be beneficial for future multi monitor support...

Now all of the drivers parse the information on their own, think this as continuation for i2c.hidd. i2c.hidd is (among other things it is not just for that cause) used for getting the edid block.

EDIT:

Maybe a simple library would be sufficient, give a library function a pointer to EDID block and it would allocate and return a parsed common Aros specific structure for driver to use, or some sort of a monitor.resource that keeps track of available monitors and does the parsing?
